Thornburg Drugs began in 1915 Thornburg Drug Company operates six stores in the surrounding area, offering professional prescription service plus a wide variety of sundry merchandise. Everything a drug store should have and more. The company was started in 1915-l>y Ralph E. Thornburg. He was joined by a partner, Charles W. Kroh. in 1921. These two pharmacist established a solid business with courteous, friendly service plus both men were active in community affairs. These policies have been continued by their sons — Ralph W. Thornburg, Charles F Kroh and John F. Kroh — and their fellow pharmacists and employees. Thornburg officials say, “We support and encourage participation in the annual Flotilla event that offers a fun week end for all. Our congratulations to the Flotilla committee on another fine job. We extend a warm welcome to all our friends and visitors to the area. May you all have a wonderful, safe time." Remember the 1968 Flotilla? Remember the Flotilla of 1968? It was the eighth annual event and was held on Father’s Day. Excellent weather prevailed all day as literally thousands lined the 27-mile shoreline to watch the floats go past. General chairman of the event: Bill Beemer. He called the event, “One of the very best,” stating he w'as pleased with the participation and with the variety of entries. There were 40 floats entered in the event, giving judges real concern in picking winners. The Flotilla began promptly at 1 p.m. at Macy’s Slip and traveled clockwise past Wawasee Prep, to the fish hatchery where hundreds awaited, then on around to the Waco beach area where trophies were presented. Winning the top award — the Commodore’s Cup — was Marion criminal court judge Mike Kiley, his wife, Carol, and children. Dan and Ann, with their float “Here Comes Da Judge”. State Senator Will Erwin of Etna Green rode in the lead house boat. The newly crowned Flotilla queen. Miss Marta Juday of Syracuse, greeted viewers from atop the queen’s float. With her were the five pretty princesses. Marcia Peffley. Susie Smith, Geni Clark, Peg Hughes and Carla Singery. Judges were Jack Vanderford of Lake Wawasee, Jay Peffley of Syracuse, B. W. Crimmens of Marion and Tom Rodgers of Huntington. The awards and the winning floats are listed as follows: Commodore's Cup — “Here Comes Da Judge” Flotilla President's Trophy — Tom Socks Flotilla Committee’s Trophy — Saint Andrew's United Methodist Church Queen's Trophy — STP turbine race car Top Pop Trophy — Syracuse Fire Department Cedar Point Trophy — Nappanee Junior Chamber of Commerce Ogden Island Trophy — “Love In,” Dr .
