Syracuse Hardware oldest retail business in same location Syracuse Hardware is known to be the oldest retail business to operate from the same location continuously since it’s beginning. It was started at 110 West Main Street in the early 1900 s. E. E. Strieby was the first owner of the store and he sold it to Ross W. and William Osburn about 1920. The Osburns owned the store the longest. In those days nails and farm fence were ordered by the traincar load. The cash register was purchased by the Osburns in 1931 and is still in operating condition in the store today. Many old signs of the past — nail kegs and piles of Winchester rifle boxes (indicating the large number of rifles sold in those days — were found in the basement of the store. Art believes running the oldest store is all the more reason to have the latest equipment and merchandise in stock to serve Syracuse and would like to add his personal thanks to Syracuse for patronizing the Syracuse Hardware for over 60 years. T. G. Music opens on Main Street Timothy G. Robie, a native of Syracuse, opened a music store, T. G. Music, at 108 West Main Street in Syracuse, on May 11,1978. Tim handles new' and used instruments, including guitars, banjos and amps. Music lessons are available.
