County students receive degrees from Purdue
A May class of 3,969 students completed their work and received degrees in the 126th commencement exercises at Purdue University on May 13 and 14. In addition to the May graduates, students who completed their studies in August and December of last year were also eligible to participate in commencement. Bachelor’s degrees were awarded to 3,155 students while 230 received associate (two-year) degrees. In the two groups, 255 graduated ‘with distinction.’’ Ten per cent of each school’s candidates who have the highest indexes, none of them with a grade-point average oi less than five of a possible six, receive their degrees "with distinction.” An additional 111 students graduated “with highest distinction,” the status conferred on the top three per cent of all distinguished Students, regardless of school. A total of 584 advanced degrees were awarded. Foreign students earning their degrees totaled 105; 37 of them received bachelor’s; one, associated; and 67, advanced degrees. when the car driver, Cynthia Bryan, 23, r 1 Warsaw, started to turn right, and the vehicles collided. The damage was to the auto, with none to the truck owned by Cardinal Learning Center at Warsaw.
New royalty chosen in Cutie contest
R. J. (Bob) Bledsoe and Sonya Rose, both four-years-old, were named the 1978 Cutie King and Queen in the annual Mermaid Festival Cutie King and Queen contest and parade last Wednesday in North Webster. R. J„ son of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. (Timm) Bledsoe of Warsaw was picked out of 41 boys. Sonya, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Rose, Pierceton, was chosen out of a possible 50 girls. Named first runners-up were Andrew Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Smith of Bourbon, and Amanda Richardson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Richardson, Anderson. Ricky McGranahan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Mcfiranahan of Annapolis, Md., and Merriah Faust, Syracuse man injured in crash Kevin Knisley, 24. r 2 box 321A Syracuse, was injured at 6:45 am. Friday. June 23. in a motorcycle accident on SR 13N, Syracuse. Syracuse ambulance crewmen said Knisley had a possible fracture to his left ankle. They applied a splint to his left leg and transported him to the Goshen Hospital. Crewmen said Knisley told them as he went to brake, the vehicle went out of control and he was thrown into the ditch.
