Young at heart enjoy Festival
1 The Mermaid Festival in North Webster is not only queens and parades, it is also a midway filled with exciting adventures for the young at heart. Children can find excitement trying to win a prize, lower left, or just by riding down the big slide with a friend, lower right. Or, a child's imagination can be filled with wonderful things while taking a trip on one of the many rides offered, right.

Silver Lake Days to be July 14-16
Carnival rides and a variety of events have been slated for Silver Lake Days on July 14, 15 and 16. The festival is sponsored by the Silver Lake Lions Club and the Silver Lake Area JC’s. The week end prior to that (July 8 and 9) a women's softball tourney will be held at the school diamond. Information on this may be obtained by contacting Mary Behny. On Friday, a pet parade will be held in front of the school at 6 p.m. This is for youngsters 12 years of age and under. A ribbon will be presented to all participants and a first place trophy will also be awarded. From 9 p.m. to midnight a good 'ol fashioned square dance will be held at the JC Hall featuring the Moore Brothers. Starting at 8 am., Saturday, July 15, the men will begin their softball tourney, also at the Silver Lake diamond. Information for this may be obtained from Steve Behny. Wheel barrow races will preceed the big parade and will run on the same route as the parade.

Trying to exceed last years unit number of entries jjf 115. the Lions Club and the JC’s will kick off the parade at 11 a.m. on the east edge of town. The route will begin at Supreme Farmstead, go west to highway 15 and north three blocks, returning to Supremes. Ribbons and trophies will be presented for this event. For information concerning this event, contact Ken Graybill. The Emergency Medical service will have a smorgasbord at the Lions Building beginning also at 11 a m. and will run until 7 p.m. All proceeds will go to the South Central Kosciusko EMS. A four wheel drive truck pull begins at 1 p.m. behind the Lions Building. Information may be obtained by calling Dave Kerlin. After this event is over at approximately 6 p.m. the garden tractors will begin their pull at the same location . Ron Lynch is in charge of this event. Games will begin at the Lions Building at 7 p.m. while the teenagers will be at the JC Hall fora dance beginning at 9 p.m. On Sunday, the men will

World record tied in ski classic .
Even though rain stopped the Chris Shenkel Hoosier Water Ski Classic entrants from completing all three rounds in the slalom, jump and freestyle events last week end. crowds watching from the shore of Camelot Lake of the Valley, in between Syracuse and Milford, weren’t disappointed Fine performances could be seen from Wayne Grimditch. Kris LaPoint. Bob LaPoint and Chris Redmond, all taking top money prizes. Grimditch, from Hillsboro, Fla , taking first place in rounds one and two of the jump, walked away with a total of $1,563.50 for his two-day efforts. His two jumps were 172’ and |6B’. Kris and Bob LaPoint shared second place with a total moneyprize of $925.50 each Both the LaPoint brothers scored high in the slalom events, each taking a title in the two rounds Kris took round one honors with a run-off score of three consecutive buoys with five extra Bob took second honors with a run-off score of one and one-half consecutive buoys. During round two. Bob came out on top by unofficially tieing the world record with a run of 37 feet eight inches off the 7u foot rope. There is only 37 feet between the buoys, so he had to stretch to make his time. Both LaPoint brothers, who comt* from Cflatre Valley. Calif., have made the world mark in the past. Redmond, from Canton. Ohio, won his prize money of SBOS by scoring high in the two rounds of jump In his first round, he jumped 158’. He bettered that score with a jump of 167' in the second round. South Bend, to be* aired in late July. This will be the first time it will be aired on television with a possibility of it being televised on ABC's Wide World of Sports.
