Indiana United Teenager Pageant at Indianapolis in July. The pageant is the statewide final for the United Teenager Pageant which takes place in December at Washington, D. C. Debbie will be a sophomore at Wawasee High School in the fall. Among special interests, Debbie likes to read, swim and play tennis. She is a member of the swim team at the school and drama club, where she served as a dancer in the club presentation this spring of “Hello, Dolly .” Debbie will be taking part in a dance recital of tap, jazz and ballet, at the high school this week end. She assists with Sunday School at the Eighth Street Mennonite Church in Goshen, and also helps in Special Olympic events of the Lakeland school system. Competition Contestants from all over the state will be taking part in the pageant, each being from 14-18 years old, and holding at least a B-average in school. Participants are judged on scholastic and civic achievements, beauty, poise and personality. No talent competition or swim suit appearance is required, however, each will write and recite on stage, a 100word essay on “My Country.” Each contestant is asked to take part in the pageant’s volunteer community service program of donating at least eight hours to charity or civic work. The July winner will receive an expense paid trip to the Capitol for finals in December, where scholarships totaling $15,000 will be awarded.
