Mothers' esteem evident in Bible's verses
By MARIETTA FULLER Mother’s Day comes during the lovely month of May with the outdoors in its adornment of flowers, green grass, blossoming trees, blue skies and nostalgic days. In the following lines, famous people write about what the love of a mother has meant to them: “My memories of my mother will never cease to be a blessing to me.” Thomas A. Edison. “A mother’s love outlives all things,” Oliver Wendell Holmes. “All that I am or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” “No man is poor who has a Godly mother,” Abe Lincoln. And in God’s word, the Holy Bible, there is much which is said about mothers. In the fifth commandment, it says, "Honour your father and your mother.” As children, we obey our parents and after we grow up, we honour them. In Proverbs 31:10, we find these words: "Who can find a virtuous.woman? For her price is far above rubies.” And in a summary ’of the rest of this chapter, w-e find these thoughts: “She does her work with love in her heart ; . . . she stretcheth out her hand to the poor; . . she is wise, . . . she is kind, . . . her husband praiseth her and her children call her blessed ; and let her works for her children and for the Lord praise her inthegates." The Bible is full of the stories of Mothers. For instance, there is Jochebed, the mother of Moses. Think of the great faith she had in
arrangements for television and radio employment. They left Sunday morning with their household belongings to reside in Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Morehouse and Georgina, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Newcum and David, Nelson Morehouse, Lydia Morehouse. Miss Donna Moser and Miss Doris Tom enjoyed dinner together Sunday. Earl Ulery was dismissed from the Goshen Hospital to his Goshen home after undergoing surgery 10 days ago.

God when she placed her son in the crude basket in the bullrushes. God in His infinite wisdom made it possible for her to care for and to train her own Son in the ways of the Lord. Hannah prayed to God asking for a son and in return promised to give him to serve the Lord. Her heart must have been broken, but she kept her promise and Samuel served the Lord under the guidance of Eli anti later became a priest for God. You, too, can see that your children serve the Lord by early leading them to Him. The story about Rizpah pulls at the heart strings, for she watched by the dead bodies of her two sons, chasing the animals away at night by a torch lighted from the fire and from scavenger birds during the day. She did this for days until they could have a decent burial for these two sons who had been killed in battle. The love of a mother for her own continues even after death. Timothy, his mother Eunice and grandmother, Lois, lived together with the love of God indwelling them. When Timothy was “born again” and saved from his sins, God was not new to him. His mother, Eunice, and

grandmother, Lois, had seen to it that Timothy was trained in the Scriptures. The Bible counsels: “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Prov. 22.6) Jesus held home ties as sacred ones and even on the cross. He thought about His mother and His words, as He looked to Mary were: ", . Woman, behold thy son!” and then He saith to the disciple (John the beloved), “Behold thy mother!” (Saint John 19:26-27) A Godly mother finds time to spend with the Lord each day in training her children in the way of the Bible. This means praying, going to church school and church, reading, hearing and studying the Bible, following its teachings and working for the Lord. Feed upon the word of God so that you may grow spiritually and hence be an example to your children.
