Vanderford who has served in the post since the early 1950’5. A formal unveiling of the new logotype of the State Bank of Syracuse was held at the bank's lobby in uptown Syracuse Monday morning. Tomorrow (Thursday) will be a big day for Syracuse’s newest financial institution - First Federal Savings & Loan Association. Syracuse Branch, located in Wawasee Village. Syracuse’s Dr. E. L. Fosbrink, has been named 1973 Kansas Mother of the Year. Ray and Barbara Grumme, owners of the Wawasee Village Hardware south of Syracuse, are building a new building to house their business in Wawasee Village, located just south of the House in the Village, on the west side of road 13. 29 YEARS AGO, MAY 1,1958 Court Slabaugh, Syracuse teacher, former principal and coach, was honored by the faculty of the Syracuse schools at a dinner Monday night at the Westminister Hotel in Winona. Larry Roe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Roe. won the Kosciusko County spelling contest in the WRSW studios at Warsaw Saturday morning. James Denton, son of Mrs. Luther Denton, was awarded the most valuable player award for the year at the annual sports award dinner Wednesday at the school house. Mrs. Stover Hire was honored at a cradle shower Tuesday night at the home of Mrs. Jan Rinker. 45 YEARS AGO. MAY 4. 1933 Nelson Auer, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Auer, and Tillman Coy, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Tilln an Coy last week completed seven years in school without missing a day or being tardy. Mrs. Roy Brown was cutting grass of their lawn, Monday, she found 58 mushrooms growing there. Fred G. Appel, of Indianapolis, member of Eli Lilly’s 18th annual fishing party last week, won the “Dynamite Bill’’ cup for catching the largest fish of any member of the party. He was a 7* 2 pound pike. George Campbell, Jr., who lives on the north shore caught a 15 pound pike, Sunday, from the dock in front of their cottage.

Motorcycle reported stolen Lynn D. McFarland, 21, r 2 Syracuse, reported the theft of his 1974 Harley-Davidson motorcycle valued at $2,000 to Elkhart County police. The bike, a lOOOcc burgandy machine with front forks extended, had the shift lever broken

in a spill at CR 127 and CR 1948 McFarland pulled the bike from the roadway and when he returned several hours later, it was gone. Some say sneezing before a journey is a bad sign.
