which lasted four days. “We have been made aware,” Mrs. Miller said. “So we can no longer hide behind the statement ‘We don’t know.’ ” Sessions were held allday and into the evening on current problems such as human rights. The only free time each day was at supper time. “Outside of that, it was a very full program," Miller added. She said that unlike other convention-type gatherings, most of the seats were filled each session. The speakers who addressed the 9.000 women from all over the nation were from other parts of the world and some were notable. United Nations Ambassador Andrew Young was to have attended in person, but conflicts made it impossible, so an audiovisual presentation from him was presented. Mrs. Brown said that when Ambassador Young speaks out on an issue, he speaks his conscience, for he is a minister. The status of freedom in the other countries was demonstrated to the assembly by the speakers. Naomi Komo, from Rhodesia, was very careful what she said, Mrs. Miller said, possibly fearing consequences upon return to her country. "There were two women who had to cancel at the last minute, that their governments wouldn't let them speakT' Mrs. Miller said. Marilyan Wright Edelman spoke on a defense fund for children. She said agencies are too ready to take children out of their homes rather than funding help for in the home. Mrs. Maryann Hunsiker related the story of how CINAD was formed following World War II to help refugees. And Dr. Lie, the first person to visit Ethiopian prisons, stated that women related to political activists in that country are put in jail. He also said school children are given weapons to use against anyone they suspect of being a political activist. Melissa Wells, United States representative to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations also appeared at the assembly. She said Ambassador Young feels a new economic order has got to be formed in the world. Mrs. Brown said Bible study was conducted in the round with all 9,000 women participating. The bread used for communion at the beginning and end of the assembly was baked by the women who attended. Mrs.

Brown said there was a “oneness” at the assembly. “I realized that women in our land and around the world do have a power to shape the land for years to come,” Mrs. Brown commented. Such a power can shape the quality of life for all, she added. Fellowship at the assembly was “tremendous," the ladies reported. No one was a stranger.
