It Happened ... In Milford
14 YEARS AGO. APRIL 16.1964 Mr. and Mrs. CoUter Longcor es Goshen visited her mother, Mrs. Henry Ruch, Milford, Sunday evening. Mrs. George Haab of Milford has returned home after spending 10 days in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jorgensen at Grand Island, N.Y. Mr. Jorgensen is confined in a hospital in Niagara Falls suffering from a heart ailment. Mrs. Jorgensen is a sister of Mr. Haab. Mrs. Richard Smith of Milford and Mrs. Glen Tom of Elkhart were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Smith and family of Coloma, Mich., on Friday. 24 YEARS AGO, APRIL 22,1954 Mr. and Mrs. Charles Davis and family of Indianapolis and Dr. and Mrs. V. G. Hursey of Milford were Easter dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Poynter of Syracuse. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sauder and son Douglas of Mansfield, Ohio, were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Steffen.
Area persons injured when train hits car
Scott Jones, 18, North Webster, and Dustin Bechtold, eight, Syracuse, were two of five persons injured Thursday when their car was hit by a westbound freight train northwest of Cromwell. Jones suffered a concussion and multiple bruises. He was listed in fair condition last week in Goshen Hospital. Bechtold was treated and released from the hospital. The mishap occurred when the driver of the vehicle, Roger L. Northrup, 20, Cromwell, stalled his car at a rail crossing on CR 1025 W. The vehicle was hit by the

Mr. and Mrs. David Brady and three children of near Niles, Mich., were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Bushong at supper, Saturday. 30 YEARS AGO, APRIL 29,1948 Mrs. Frank Grove and Mrs. Bertha Weybright visited their sister, Mrs. Mary Mullins, at Ligonier, last week. Mrs. Mullins accompanied them home on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hoerr and daughter, Becky Ann, are visiting Mrs. Hoerr’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theo Beer. Alterations are being made on the Walter Krider residence south of the Methodist Church. A cement stoop with iron rail will replace the front porch. 60 YEARS AGO, APRIL 25,1918 Mr. and Mrs. John D. Wyland spent Sunday at Millersburg with their daughter, Mrs. James Rink and family. Simon Mann, the Milford junk dealer, who went to Fort Wayne about ten days ago, returned to

Northrup, who was treated and released, was cited for driving under the influence of intoxicating beverages and operating a motor vehicle without a license. Danny Ananias, 17, Cromwell, was listed in fair condition with a concussion, scalp cuts and multiple abrasions. Northrup’s brother, George, 29, of Cromwell, was treated and released. Northrup’s car was damaged SI,OOO. No estimate of repair was placed on the Baltimore and Ohio train.

Parked truck hit A parked truck owned by Delbert Stidhams, r 1 North Webster, was hit at 4:10 p.m. Thursday on CR 600 N, when a truck driven by a Winona Lake man crashed into it. Jerry L. Burkitt, 31, Park Ave., Winona Lake, was attempting to steer his vehicle over a section of pavement which was breaking up due to the spring thaw. He attempted to move his truck over the right, causing his

right tires to go off the road and into soft mud in a ditch. The Burkitt truck then hit the Stidham parked truck forcing it into the front porch of the Stidham residence. Stidham’s truck was damaged $1,500 while his porch was damaged S3OO. A total of $2,000 was listed to Burkitt’s 1967 truck.
