An evangelistic program attempting to relate evangelism to God’s dream of a new world order is in progress in the Nappanee United Methodist The mission is divided into three phases — preparation, proclamation and penetration. The first step, preparation, a period of churchwide study, is now in effect. The book, Shalom, is being studied by a large part of the congregation. This book highlights God’s dream of Shalom, a vision of peace and freedom, with Jesus’ message of the kingdom of God seen as the completion of this vision. The second phase, proclamation, is a period of five

In the bode, are crafts and sections where the child learns passages and lessons from the Bible. Most of the study done in the handbooks is done by the children themselves. Rev. Freerksen says, “We don’t spend a great deal of time teaching them; they spend most of the time learning themselves. It’s amazing how many students get caught up in it.” After a child passes a section or craft, he or she receives a charm. Achievement bars are also given out. Game time is designed to put competitive spirit into the children Games are based on the, AWANA circle, a 30-foot circle, where teams of four colors compete. At the end of each night, one team comes out the winner. The pastor says, “It puts pressure on them to win points.” Also during this time, students learn games they will be competing in during the annual AWANA Olympics, to be held April 8, at Bourbon. Two teams from the Wawasee AWANA club will participate in the Olympics against 25 other AWANA teams in the semi-finals. The finals are held in Mishawaka. Rev. Freerksen says the Olympics can be avery informative and fun. “It becomes a quite interesting and unique experience,” he explained. Ribbons and awards are presented to the winning teams. Council time comes at the end of the night and this is when Rev. Freerksen speaks to the children about the Bible. Stories, often involving a lesson of some kind, are also read to the children. The AWANA club at W’awasee Heights Baptist Church is part of an international AWANA program. The program is fundamental in nature and is not a Baptist organization. AWANA does not promote the doctrine of any specific church or denomination, but rather gives priority to the Bible, as the word of God. Before a child can enter an AWANA club, he has to pass a three-week entrance test. After
