injured during a fire at an Indiana State Highway Department trailer, located at the intersection of US 6 and CR 19 in > Elkhart County. The fire oc-

curred on Thursday morning, March 9. May suffered bums to the back. Also injured in the blaze were Lee Washington, 45, and John Artley, Jr., 23, both of Elkhart, who received bums on the face and hands. The three were taken to Goshen Hospital where they were treated and later released. The fire started when a mixture being used to clean the floor of the 12x50 foot trailer ignited. The highway department employees were cleaning tar off the floor with a mixture of fuel oil and gasoline. A pilot light ignited the mixture. May and Washington escaped by the door while Artley jumped through a trailer window. Artley also received abrasions to the right side. The New Paris Fire Depart; ment was called to the scene at 10:26 a.m. and fought the blaze for over an hour. A total of 10 firemen and four trucks pumping 3,500 gallons of water were used to extinguish the fire. Damage was estimated as $3,500 to the trailer and $1,500 to the contents. Hook Drugs report record soles, earnings Indianapolis — Hook Drugs, Inc. reports record 1977 sales of $168,145,076. This represents an increase of 13.5 per cent over the 1976 figure of $148,090,142, according to company president, Norman P. Reeves. Record net earnings were $4,626,362, increasing 22 per cent over $3,801,219 for 1976 operations. Earnings per share were $1.60, compared to $1.32 the previous year. Total dividends paid in 1977 were 80 cents per share, identical to those of the previous year. Reeves also announced a 25 cents per share quarterly dividend, an increase of 3 cents per share over the previous three months’ 22 cents. It is payable April 28, on its 2,891,698 outstanding shares to stockholders of record April 14, 1978. Prescription volume represented over 26 per cent of their total volume (compared to the chain drug store industry average of 18 per cent). Nearly eight million prescriptions were filled in 1977. berland, Fort Wayne, Muncie, Newburgh, Petersburg, Scottsburg, Sullivan, Tell City and Tipton. A new concept, Hook’s Convalescent Aid and Sick Room Supply Center, was opened in Fort Wayne. Hook’s now operate 230 drug stores, all in Indiana. About 12 new stores are scheduled to open in 1978. More than 3,000 persons are employed by Hook’s. RUNNING FOR REELECTION — Avis Gunter, Kosciusko County Assessor, has filed for re-election. She is a resident of Clay Township, and is affiliated with the Claypool United Methodist Church, a member and treasurer of the Indiana County Assessor’s Association, Lamplighters Home Demonstration Club, the Warsaw Business and Professional Women’s Club and the Republican Women’s Club. From 1964-1974 she has been appointed as first and second deputy in the assessor’s office. In April of 1974 she was appointed assessor to fill the vacancy created by Carl Zimmer, who was retiring. Then in 1974 she was elected for her first term as county assessor. She is a graduate of Claypool High School. After graduating she completed Appraisal Techniques I of 1.A.A.0. at Indiana University, Bloomington, she also completed a training seminar of Indiana State Tax Board in co-operation with Indiana University. Her children are Hal Gunter of Claypool, who is a farmer, and Ava Gunter, who is a U.S. Deputy Marshal in Alexandria, Va. Syracuse women hospitalized after car-truck crash Patricia A.
