Dr. Burke tells experiences at senior citizens meeting
Dr. Homer Burke introduced his brother, Dr. Eldon Burke, from North Manchester, who spoke on his relief work in Germany, at the Milford Senior Citizens meeting, Sunday, March 12, in the Milford Fire Station. Dr. Eldon Burke was stationed in Germany for five years, after the war. He helped distribute the clothing, food and heifers sent over to the needy. Experiences were told to the group about his work. The tables were decorated with green streamers and shamrocks and napkins, all in keeping with Saint Patrick’s Day. Dr. Burke gave the table grace after which all helped themselves to dinner, dinner.

The business meeting was opened by giving the pledge to the flag. A card benefit is being planned for April 18 to raise money for the Emergency Medical Service. Georgia Buster invited the senior citizens to a meeting on March 16 at Syracuse. In a report on the Chatter Box, 254 visitors had stopped by last month and another donation was given to the EMS. Thirty-four members and guests were present. The next meeting will Sunday, April 9. Some people have believed that eating cinnamon would help them become immune to disease.
FFA slave auction March 20 . The Wawasee Future Farmers of America will be holding their annual slave auction on Monday evening, March2o, at7:3o p.m. in the ag-auto mechanics building. Anyone desiring help with spring cleaning, yard work, painting, general repairs, farm work, etc. is encouraged to attend. Each slave is obligated to work" eight hours at the convenience of the purchaser. Proceeds from the auction are used to finance the activities of the Wawasee FFA throughout the year. For further information contact the vocational agriculture department. Lucky Sevens elect officers Election of officers was held at the March 5 meeting of the Lucky Seven CB Club, Syracuse. Margaret Weybright, Syracuse, has been named as a member of the new 4-H Expansion and Review Committee. A birthday dinner was held Sunday, March 13, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Merl D. Laughlin, near Syracuse, in honor of the March 10 birthday of the former. John Zimmerman graduates from state law enforcement academy
Deputy Marshal John C. (Jack) Zimmerman of the Syracuse Police Department is a member of the 49th basic graduating class of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. Graduation ceremonies for 107 officers of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy were held in the academy’s assembly hall, Plainfield, at 1 p.m., Friday, March 10. The Honorable Robert J. Fair, (resident pro tem, Indiana State Senate, Princeton, was the principal speaker. Larry J. Wilson, deputy marshal, Jonesboro police department, the class president; and the academy’s executive director, Herman H. Freed, also participated. This basic training session, the
SBOO damage at school
A total of SBOO damage was done to garage doors at Wawasee High School when a stolen jeep was driven into them Friday, March 3. Vandalism seemed to be the sole motive as no apparent entry was found to the building, located at the west end of the football field. Green paint marks apparently coming off the vehicle were found on the doors. The jeep was found later on

GIRLS’ STATERS — Kathy Troup, left, has been chosen to attend Girls’ State this summer by the Milford American Legion Auxiliary, Ancil Geiger Unit 226. Vickie Kreider, right, is alternate, Kathy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Evar Troup of Milford. She is a junior at Wawasee High School and is majoring in business with possible plans for business school in her future. Kathy’s hobbies are swimming, sewing and bike riding. She is a member of the Milford Christian Church and the church’s Good News Sensations singing group. Vickie is the daughter of Ron Kreider of Milford and Carol Kreider of Saint Louis, Mo. She is a junior at Wawasee. Vickie is majoring in English and math and plans to work after graduating from high school. Her hobby is music. During their 10 weeks in residence at the academy the student officers have completed 400 hours of classroom work and field problems in such areas as psychology, sociology, traffic and criminal law, ethical standards, forensic science, first aid, firearms, safety and the law enforcement arts. All who graduate will have met the minimum standards of education, physical, mental, and moral fitness established by the Indiana law enforcement training board and will be certified as law enforcement officers. A total of 4,219 officers have now completed the basic course.
Saturday, March 4, in a snow drift along railroad tracks near Bishop's Wawasee Boat Company, about one mile east of Syracuse. Fresh damage to the front end of the vehicle was found along with portions of wood chips imbedded in the radiator. The jeep had been stolen March 1 from the Precision Automotive Store, Chicago Street, Syracuse. A radio and fire extinguisher were reported missing from the vehicle.

Douglas Plummer is graduated SAN ANTONIO — Airman Douglas S. Plummer, son of retired Air Force Major and Mrs. James E. Plummer of r 3, Syracuse, Ind., has graduated at Lackland AFB, Texas, from Air Force basic training The airman, who is remaining at Lackland for specialized training in the security police field, studied the Air Force mission, organization andcustoms and received special instruction in human relations. Completion of this training earned the individual credits towards an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Airman Plummer is a 1977 graduate of Wawasee High School. The first recorded flood of the Mississippi River ■ took place on March 18, 1543.
