I A . Ws* * # wUI ■■ ®W. George M. Shoup George Shoup June 12, 1927 — March 3,1978 George M. Shoup, 50, Goshen, a gas service man working for the Northern Indiana Public Service Company out of Syracuse, died last Friday. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Goshen Hospital. Shoup, who was well known and well liked in the Syracuse area, collapsed at his home. Death was due to an apparent heart attack. He was born June 12, 1927, to Harley and Mildred (Myers) Shoup. He had lived in Goshen his entire life. Shoup married Patty Lou Chrisman on June 12, 1953, and she survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Anne, a student at Goshen College; and two sons, David and John, both at home; one brother; and three sisters. Funeral services were held in the Yoder-Culp Funeral Home on Monday. Rev. Jay Morris, pastor of the Saint Mark’s United Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was in Violett cemetery. Betty Rapp June 9,1917 —March 6,1978 Betty J. Rapp, 60, of 743 East Center Street, Warsaw, whose son is Steve Rapp of Leesburg, died at 7:35 a.m. Monday, March 6, in the Kosciusko Community Hospital. She had been in failing health for four years. She was born in Warsaw on June 9,1917, to Floyd and Jessie Cook, and remained a resident of Warsaw. On October 20,1934, she married John Rapp. He survives. She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Warsaw and the Warsaw American Legion Auxiliary and a housewife. Surviving in addition to the husband and son are three daughters, Mrs. Armin (Beverly) Mueller, Pierceton, Mrs. Dean (Jonna) Stahl, Pierceton, and Mrs. Bill (Linda) Osborne, Warsaw; seven grandchildren, one brother, Charles Cook, Fort Wayne. Services were held at the McHatton Sadler Funeral Home with Pastor John Ricker of the Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in the Oakwood cemetery.

Donald Litchenwalter April 13,1897 — March 2,1978 Donald Jerry Lichtenwalter, Sr., 80, of Milford, died Thursday, March 2, at 2 p.m. in the Veterans Hospital, Fort Wayne, following one and a half years of illness. Most of his life was spent in Kosciusko County. He was born in Milford on April 13, 1897. He married Edith Bryan on March 20,1920. She preceded him in death on December 27, 1967. He was retired from the Winona Railroad and the Milford Machinery Co. A World War I veteran with the U. S. Army, he was the last World War I Commander of the Warsaw American Legion Post 49. Also he was a member of the 40et-8, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Eagles. Surviving are two sons, Donald Lichtenwalter, Jr., Clyde, N. Y., and Guy B. Lichtenwalter, Milford; three grandchildren, including Mrs. Kevin (Kristy) Gautsche of Reading, Mich., formerly of Milford; two greatgrandchildren; and one brother, Ralph Lichtenwalter, Warsaw. Services were conducted at the McHatton-Sadler Funeral Home, Warsaw, and burial was in the Oakwood cemetery with military graveside services conducted by the Warsaw American Legion, Grace Pease April 4,1902 — March 6,1978 = Mrs. Grace A. Pease, 74, of 906 Georgia Road, Goshen, whose daughters are Mrs. Margaret Beel, Mrs. Edward (Virginia) Amsden and Mrs. Bruce (Maxine) Rogers, all of Milford, was found dead in her home, by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. William Pease of New Paris, at 11:12 a.m. Monday. She had apparently had a heart attack Sunday evening, March 5. She was born cm April 4,1903, in Wilmott. In 1919, she married Jacob Pease who preceded her in death February 4, 1977. Besides the three daughters, living in Milford, survivors are, three other daughters, Mrs. Elvin (Lucille) Tusing, Nappanee, Mrs. Edwin (Patsy) Smith, Waterloo and Mrs. Geraldine Stanly, New Paris; four sons, Robert Pease, Stoneham, Mass., William Pease, New Paris, Jack Pease, Dunlap and Tommy Pease, Goshen; 35 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren; and three sisters. One daughter and one brother are deceased. Friends may call from 3:30-5 and 7-9 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Mishler Funeral Home, Milford. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 9, with Robert Greenwood, minister of the Milford Christian Church. Burial will be in the Milford cemetery. He retired two years ago as owner and operator of the Texaco Service Station in Milford after 33 years. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II in Europe, was a member, past commander and finance officer of the Ancil Geiger American Legion Post 226 of Milford, and a member of the 40et-8 of Warsaw. Besides his widow, Gladys, survivors are one son, Charles Berkeypile and one daughter, Mrs. Dean (Sally) Baker, both of Milford; and five grandchildren. Two brothers preceded him in death. Funeral services are being held this afternoon (Wednesday) in the Mishler Funeral Home, Milford, with Rev. Everett Owens, pastor of the Milford Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Milford cemetery. Virginia Morgan Gray Sept. 18,1886—Feb. 28,1978 Mrs. Virginia Morgan Gray, 91, of the Bishop Gray Inn, Davenport, Fla., mother of Colonel Joseph A. Gray, Lake Wawasee, died February 28 in Haines City, Fla. 11l one month, death was a result of heart failure and advanced age. Born in Nashville, Tenn., September 18,1886, she was the daughter of Robert and Mary Frances Morgan. In 1906 she married Campbell Gray. She had resided in Mishawaka and on Lake Wawasee from 1925. In 1955, she moved to Orlando, Fla., and later to Davenport, Fla. Her husband, Rt. Rev. Campbell Gray, served as the Second Episcopal Bishop, Northern Indiana, from 1925 to 1944. She was a member of the Episcopalian Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. , Besides her son, Colonel Gray, she is survived by another son, William C. Gray, Detroit, Mich.; and several grandchildren. Funeral services are tentatively scheduled for March 18, in the Howe Military School Crypt. Bishop Sheridan, Father Dave Hyndman and Father George Minnix will officiate. Interment will be at Howe Military School. James Newcomer Oct. 3,1924 — March 4,1978 Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday in the First Brethren Church at Nappanee for James E. Newcomer, former mayor of Nappanee. Newcomer, 53, a resident of 956 East Marion St., Nappanee, died at 1:28 p.m. Saturday in the Elkhart Hospital. He had been a patient there for 17 days. He suffered a heart ailment. The deceased was born in Nappanee on October 3,1924. He

He was a member of the First Brethren Church and of the Nappanee Masonic Lodge. He owned and operated Newcomer’s Jewelry Store for the past 25 years. Surviving with the widow are a son, Brad, Nappanee; two daughters, Mrs. James Cowell and Mrs. Kim Heckaman, both of Nappanee; and six grandchildren. Two brothers preceded him in death. Rev. Alvin Shifflett officiated at the services. Burial was in South Union cemetery. WrightYoder funeral home, Nappanee, was in charge of the service. Charles Phelps Funeral services were held in Olympia, Wash., at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 3, for Charles Phelps, father of Mrs. Ted (Ellen) Brooks of Milford.

Miller, 81, of the Pythian Sisters Home, Lafayette, a former North Webster resident, died at 10:10 p.m. Monday, March 6. She had lived in the home since 1970. She was born in Burket December 23,1895, the daughter of Peter and Sarah (McNutt) Mitteriing. In 1946, she married Clinton Miller. He died in 1952. A housewife, she had resided in North Webster most of her life. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters of North Webster. She was taken to Goshen Hospital at 7:32 a.m. Mary K. Fisher, 64, r 4 77 East Shore Drive, Syracuse, was first taken to an area doctor’s office and later to the hospital at 12:06 p.m. March 6, after she became ill. The call was first received at 10:27 a.m. Belinda Lozano, 19, 119 Portland Street, Syracuse, was transported to Goshen Hospital at 2:10 p.m. March 6, when she became ill. Ambulance was called to her home at 1:33 p.m. Milford EMS On Wednesday, March 1, a young man became pinned between a tractor and a wagon at Martin’s feed mill in Leesburg. He was transported to the Kosciusko Community Hospital emergency room. A call was made on March 5 to the home of a Milford man who suffered an apparent heart attack. CPR was used but to no avail as efforts to revive him failed. On March 6 two persons were injured when struck by a car in downtown Milford. A 14-year-old boy suffered head and ankle injuries. A 23-year-dd woman also suffered head and ankle injuries. They were transported to the Goshen Hospital emergency room. Also on Monday, a 17-year-old boy, who was having difficulty breathing, was transported to the emergency room at Goshen.

Viola Bums Nov. 4,lß93—March 3,1978 Viola Burns, 84, r 2 Syracuse, died at 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 3, in the Strawberry Village Nursing Home, Ligonier. A native of Wallace, Neb., she was bom November 4, 1893, to Charles and Louise (Joeckel) Burns. She had resided in Syracuse since 1941, coming from Cromwell. She was a member of the Richville United Methodist Church. Surviving are two brothers, John Burns, Syracuse and Harvey Bums, Ligonier. One brother preceder her in death. Services were held Monday in the On* Funeral Home, Ligonier. Rev. Robert Wyman, pastor of the Richville United Methodist Church, officiated and burial was in the Sparta cemetery, Kimmell.
RECUPERATING Bill Burgett of Milford is recuperating at home after breaking an ankle when he slipped on ice in his driveway on February 19. VIRGINIA CAIN RETURNS TO WORK Virginia Cain of Milford is returning to work after falling on the ice four weeks ago, breaking a foot. Benjamin Thomas tipped the scales at five pounds, three ounces and measured 19 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Davenport of Irish Lake. Paternal grandparents are Willard Boesenberg and Bernice Boesenberg, both of Tucson, Ariz. Wilma Thomas of Irish Lake is the baby’s maternal great-grandmother and Edna Zars of Lombard, 111., is the paternal great-grandmother. Benjamin Thomas has one brother, Alexander, five.
