Defending champ s' coach confident *

Defending sectional champions - the Wawasee Warrior’s, head coach Jerry Lambert says all five of the teams are strong. “And I don’t think anybody can pick a winner,” he commented. “And, I feel confident we can get the job done. We did last year.” Returning as lettermen to the team are guards Bryan Smith, Kent Trobaugh, Bob Sylvester, Doug Rassi, J. D. Carl, Worth Packer, Mark Lantz and Kent Paton. Bob Nordin, Phil Stichter, Mark Wagoner, and Mark Simpson will round out the sectional team. “Phil Stichter has been one of the most pleasant surprises,” Lambert said of the varsity novice. Stichter has been averaging 16.8 points per game and is one of the three or four people in double figures each game. “We’ve been getting real good help off the bench from our three senior guards,” the coach added. Rebounding has been beefed up by Mark Simpson. “Recently,” Lambert said, “he’s really strengthened our attack under the basket.” Lambert feels the team has improved much since Christmas, after playing four bad games. “I’d say since the Northridge game we’ve been playing to our potential and getting stronger each week,” he commented. “The most important thing we’re stressing is consistency,” Lambert said. He said they are not preparing for individual games but are preparing a complete offensive and defensive game. Lambert feels the team has perfumed more consistently in the last few contests. Lambert believes the draw could be a factor in the sectional, with the Wednesday night (racket being an advantage over playing three tough games. “We feel confident whoever we do

W' JERRY LAMBERT draw we can play ball with,” LAmbert said. He has been scouting the other sectional teams to prepare. The Wawasee coach says the sectional is probably the most even it has ever been, but Lambert has eight lettermen with experience from last year’s contest who will play. Wawasee also has a 4-3 record in this year’s Northern Lakes Conference.
