New pastor at United Pentecostal Church
Rev. David M. Hudson, originally from Charleston, W. Va., assumed his new duties as pastor of the Syracuse United Pentecostal Church, 201 South , Harrison Street, the first week In February. Rev. Hudson says, "I'm very excited about the church. It has a very outstanding congregation." Rev. Hudson comes to Syracuse from a pastorate In Monett, Mo. He has also served as pastor at Walkerton, and Fayetteville, W.Va. Besides his pastorates, he has worked in home missions work in establishing a new church in West Virginia and with his wife, Brenda, has traveled extensively In the eastern and southern United States engaged in evangelistic work for four years. Rev. Hudson has also helped set up and establish child care centers In Portland, the first ever in that county; In Charleston, W. Va.; and In Houston, Tex. Rev. Hudson says he came to Syracuse as a result of an eight-week revival he and his wife participated In from October to January at the church. He said when the congregation learned that Rev. Terry Fleetwood, last pastor of the church, was leaving they asked for him. He said the congregation voted him in unanimously, adding, "Everything just worked out beautiful." been spent in reorganization. Several areas he and his staff have been working on are the Sunday School and bus ministry. He said he hopes to be able to expand both of these programs, especially the Sunday School which is filled to capacity. ‘

parsonage is also planned. Rev. Hudson said he is very excited about working with the church. He said, "We're very happy here. We're excited for when we can go out and do something." He said with the bad weather, he hasn't been able to do as much as he hoped. Planning For Easter Presently, he is working on some of the services for the church, especially Easter Sunday services. He hopes to have a Sunday School drive leading up to Easter. On Easter Sunday, he is planning a sunrise service with communion and an Easter breakfast. Rev. Hudson has very special feelings concerning Easter. "I think it's a blessed time," he said. "It's a time I always enjoy very much. It helps us to reconsecrate our commitment to the sacrifice that was made for us." Besides Easter services, he is working on the youth program in the church. He said he would like to initiate a program of activities with the youth involved in visiting various places in the area. Rev. Hudson says he is not planning on any changes in the church's services at the present time. Services are held Sunday morning and evening, with Sunday School on Sunday morning and Bible Study Thursd y evening. A youth service is held on Tuesday nights. He said he is also planning on continuing to hold special services, youth camps, missions and

He said the former pastor "did commendable work for the church." Pastor Fleetwood, who served the church five years, is presently doing temporary evangelistic work in Madison. Saint Paul, Minn., and the Texas Bible College, Houston, Texas. He and his wife have one son, Nathaniel, age five, and are expecting another child in July. Rev. Hudson is very pleased with the reception he has received in Syracuse. "I like Syracuse very well," he said. "I have received a very warm response from the community. I think it will serve our needs very well." Rev. Hudson will officially be installed as pastor of the church March 17.

Grace College choir to sing at community lenten service The chair of Grace College in Winona Lake will be featured in the community lenten warship at the Calvary united Methodist Church, Sunday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. Sponsored by the churches of the Syracuse-Wawasee Ministerial Association, the Community Lenten Services are ecumenical in nature and all persons are invited to join in the worship and fellowship.
Gospel Couriers to Collainer Church tomorrow night The Gospel Couriers are coming to First United Church of Christ in Collainer. The Couriers, who have been regularly seen on the nationally televised Revival Fires program, will be presenting a full concert of gospel music beginning at 7 pan. on Thursday, Feb. 23. This widely traveled group has sung before audiences all across America and foreign countries. They have toured extensively in countries around the Mediterranean Sea, in India and spent several days in Israel. One of the most outstanding musical features of the Couriers ■ their creative arrangements. They use both old and new gospel songs during their programs and have excited audiences everywhere they go with their unique style and powerful spiritual witness. The group has headquarters in Lexington, Ky., where all the members currently reside. Jim Rude, pastor of the First United Church of Christ, who is handling local arrangements for the Gospel Couriers, has invited all area residents to attend the Thursday night concert. The event will be nondenominational and admission is free.

LENTEN SERVICE — A community Lenten service will be held in the Calvary United Methodist Church, Syracuse, this Sunday, Feb. 26, beginning at 7 p.m. The service will consist of a concert of sacred music presented by the 40 voice concert choir from Grace College, Winona Lake, under the direction of professor Donald Ogden, pictured above. The concert will include “Psalms of Praise”, “Hymns of Devotions” and “Songs of the Gospel.” The community is invited to attend the service. A period of fellowship will follow the concert in the church social room. This is the second service in the 1978 Lenten Series sponsored by the Syracuse-Wawasee Ministerial Association.
