ASCS announces grain reserve program A grain reserve program is available for farmers, upon maturity of 1976 or 1977 crop grain loans, Robert Strombeck, chairman of the Kosciusko County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation (ASC) Committee, reported. The farmer-held reserve program offers producers three year loans on their grain and provides annual storage payments of 20 cents per bushel per year for wheat and corn during the three years of the program. “The grain reserve program will keep the stocks in farmers’ hands,” Strombeck said. Remaining 1976 crop loans for feed grain and wheat are maturing now, and will continue to mature through the early months of 1978.'Farmers holding their 1976 crop loans may enter the reserve as these loans mature. 1977 crop loans will not mature for nine or 11 months from the date the loan was made and, therefore, will not be eligible for entry into the reserve until later this year. Nationally, the feed grain reserve goal is 17 to 19 million metric tons, consisting of 75 per cent corn, 11 per cent sorghum, eight per cent oats and six per cent barley. Wheat in reserve is set at 8.2 million metric tons. Mark L. McDonald unable to stop on slippery road Ari Milford driver, Mark L.
