JV Warriors whip Plymouth
By MARK STIFFLER Wawasee’s JV Warriors jumped ahead of Plymouth’s Pilgrims Friday night and held off several rallies to win the contest by a 42-38 score. Bart Bowser, a sophomore guard, put Wawasee up 2-0 with a bucket with only 10 seconds ticked off the clock. Plymouth scored its first points of the night with 3:00 left in the first quarter to cut the Wawasee lead to 4-2. The Warriors extended their lead to 8-4 but a last-second shot by the Pilgrims knotted the score at eight at the end of the period. The second quarter saw Wawasee grab a three point lead and then both teams had some troubles as the play got a little ragged. Mark Wagoner gave Wawasee a 21-17 lead late in the half and Mike Kissinger added a basket to give Wawasee a 23-17 halftime lead. Plymouth came out in the third quarter with winning the game on their minds. They erased the six-point halftime deficit by tying the game at 25 with 2:30 left in the quarter. The score was just as close, 27-27, at the end of the third stanza. Plymouth took its only lead of the game at 29-27 early in the fourth period. Mark Wagoner of Wawasee tied the game at 31 with a hoop. The Warriors got ahead for good with 3:50 left. Jay Kaiser and Mark Sumpter strengthened the Wawasee lead by hitting a free throw and a basket, respectively. The Warriors committed several turnovers Finish runners-up The Wawasee Future Farmers of America basketball team finished as runners-up in the District II FFA Basketball Tournament. The annual tourney was held over the Christmas holidays at Bremen. Eleven chapters from District II competed. They were defeated by Rochester in the championship game. ¥ Team members were Ed Clayton, John Kaiser, Rick McKibben, Ron Aaron, Jeff Hall, Jeff Beezley, Allen Coy, Bill Cusick, Tim Kaufman, Dave Strombeck, Rusty Waugh and Doug Wuthrich. New track record set Sizemore Cycle Land’s race team set a new track record at the Michigan International Snowmobile Association’s races held at Gladwin, Mich., January 1. Sizemore Cycle Land is located in the Wawasee Village, Syracuse. Traveling at 76 and one-half mph, three mph faster than the Ski-Doo factory team, Don Kurtz set the record on the half-mile oval. Warriors lose thriller to Plymouth
By MARK STIFFLER Wawasee coach Jerry Lambert shuffled his line-up for the second straight game and it almost worked for another victory. Lambert started four big men and one guard to run his offense. The effort fell just short as Plymouth came away with a 5655 win. It looked as if it might be a long game for Wawasee as Plymouth streaked to an 11-2 lead. Wawasee came back, however, to draw within 15-12 with 1:30 left in the quarter. Bryan Smith scored eight of these points and Mark Lantz tossed in the other four. The score at the end of the first quarter was 19-16 Plymouth. Phil Stichter put Wawasee on top 22-21 with a lay-up 2:00 into the second quarter. With the Pilgrims clinging to a 23-22 lead Worth Packer caught fire. He hit two free throws and then two baskets to give Wawasee a 28-23 lead. Plymouth then went on an 82 spurt to take the halftime lead at 31-30. The Pilgrims increased their lead to 37-31 with a 6-0 spurt early in the third period. Wawasee put together another comeback to trail only 41-39 at the end of the third period of action. The contest remained close the rest of the way. The Warriors were finally able to draw even at 49 with 5:07 left to play. Only 32 seconds later Bryan Smith hit

Warriors downed by Bremen
By MARK STIFFLER The Wawasee Warriors went to Bremen to play the Lions Saturday night and came away on the short end of a 64-56 final score. It seemed like the Warriors might win a laughter as they raced to a 10-4 lead in the opening quarter. Bremen got hot, though, to come back for a 21-14 lead after one quarter of action. Bremen would have blown Wawasee out of the gym if it hadn’t been for the play of Ken Patton. The senior forward came off the bench to score eight pounts and grab 10 rebounds in the second period. The halftime score was 38-37 Bremen. It was the Warriors’ turn to pull away in the third stanza as. the Lions could hit on only one of 12
