Schools observe week Book Week is being observed at the Lakeland Elementary Schools this week, through November 18. Libraries and classrooms will have displays honoring children's authors and illustrators. Art projects will involve the children in the creation of books. Each November, Book Week is celebrated nationally in schools, libraries, bookstores, clubs, private homes and any place where there are children and books. Founder One of the founders of Book Week, Frederic Melcher, emphasized its importance when he wrote, “ ... by having this one special week, we reaffirm our interest and catch the attention of others, who may think that children’s reading is not their concern. It is. It is everyone’s concern ...” He added, “Book Week brings us together to talk about books and reading, and out of our knowledge and love of books, to put the cause of children’s reading squarely before the whole community and community by community, across the whole Nation.”
