Concord defeats Wawasee
By KELLI PRICE The Wawasee swimmers did battle with the Concord girls last Thursday. The Warriorettes lost by a small two point margin at the Concord pool to tough opponents. WHS almost pulled off another win, but were defeated 85-87 by the strong Concord team Wawasee took seven firsts compared to Concord's four, but it still didn't quite do the job Attempting to win the meet by getting blue ribbon placings were: L. Kroh in the 200 and 500 freestyles, T. Carpenter in the 200 individual medley' and the 100 freestyle, and B Brewer in the 50 freestyle These three girls plus L Lowe also took the 400 freestyle relay. The other first was N. Amos in diving. Diver Nancy Amos competed in her first meet following an injury earlier this week as did Boody Brewer, freestyle swimmer Both invaluable team members are now back in action for the swimming Warriorettes Chalking this close match up to a loss. WHS now stands five and four for the season 200 medley relay: 2:27.2 first, Taylor, Davis, Dieterly, Miller; second. Girls sink Goshen swimmers
By KELLI PRICE The Goshen girls’ swim team fell to the Wawasee High School Warriorettes last Monday at the local pool. Goshen fell six points short of a win over Wawasee, when they scored 83 to WHS’s 89. The Warriorettes had a strong team effort, as they pulled off a victory with only five first places, compared to Goshen’s six. Diver Nancy Amos again broke her own record, to up the school’s diving record to 212.15. Amos’s first in diving, along with Brewer’s in the 50 freestyle, and Carpenter in the 100 backstroke, totaled the individual wins. Honor members of golf, volleyball teams last night
Special awards were presented to players of two sports — golf and volleyball — at Wawasee High School last night, .with assistant athletic director making presentations for volleyball in the absence of coach Pam Juday, and Mavis Vanderveer making presentations in golf. The golf team had a 11-f season, according to coach Vanderveer. Most valuable player for golf was Deb Dieterly and most valuable player for volleyball was Lorene Spearman. Also in golf the low medalist was Carla Darr and the coach’s award went to Amy Reed. In volleyball the highest per cent of sets went to Shelly Dahlstrom and highest per cent of serves and ace serves went to Teresa Welborn Golf players included — Varsity, Carla Darr, Deb Dieterly, Shelly Harting. Basketball scrimmage Saturday
A basketball scrimmage and open house basketball preview will be held at the Wawasee High School gym at 7 p.m. Saturday for fans of this year’s basketball teams.
