1 YEAR AGO, NOV. 18, 1878 A total of 1,061 residents of the Lakeland area turned up Saturday at Wawasee high school to take their swine flu shots, according to Mrs. Dean R. Dowty, RN, co-ordinator of the Syracuse clinic. Connolly’s Grocery, a landmark retail grocery store located in uptown Syracuse for the past 22 years, has been sold. The new owners, due to take over the business on Thursday of this week, are Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dale Doty of Milford. Doty is a well known general contractor Proceeds from the annual harvest time bazaar at Saint Andrews church last week end were expected to be over Si,ooo, and many happy people left with prized huys. Jim Louden has re-opened the silver and turquoise sljop in the Beer Realty building in Wawasee Village. The firm, known as Wawasee Turquoise Co. and operated by David Louden until recently, features silver and turquoise hand crafted gifts, and coral jewelry. 5 YEARS AGO, NOV. 8,1872 Frederick J. Lasowski, 22-year-old former South Bend man. has been named director of the Lakeland Youth Center, located tn Wawasee Village south of Syracuse Charles F. Before leaving Syracuse, Mr. Snyder presented several books and Indian relics to the Syracuse library. $450 damages in car-truck accident A total of $450 in damages was estimated in a two-vehicle accident at 918 Chicago Street in Syracuse at 9:50 a.m. October 31. A United Telephone Company truck driven by Philip E. Gates, box 551 Pierceton, was backing onto Chicago Street when he hit a car operated by Charles E. Milford man treated after one-car crash Marvin Miller, 28, r 1 Milford, was treated at the Goshen Hospital after a one-car accident on the Milford-Syracuse road at 2:46 a.m. Saturday. Miller suffered a broken leg, cuts and bruises. The car, which struck a tree on the Donal Rumfelt property, was a total loss. Investigating the accident were county Lt. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Fisel of r 1, Ligonier, has completed the navy’s ASROC course. “ASROC” is the abbreviation for the antisubmarine rocket weapons system that is installed aboard the navy’s modern warships. During the 17-week course at the Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, 111., students received instruction on the operation, maintenance and repair of the Mark 16 ASROC missile, its guidance system, warhead and launcher. He joined the navy in August 1976.
