Warriors plagued by turnovers in loss to Culver Military

By MARK STIFFLER The Wawasee High Schoo! Warriors turned the ball over to Culver Military 38-6 at Culver last Saturday afternoon. Wawasee and Culver Military fought to a scoreless tie at the end of the first quarter of play. Then the fireworks began for the hosts. Quarterback Jim Henderson heaved a 5-yard touchdown pass to Randy Pruitt for the initial score of the contest. Chuck Milsted booted the Culver’s second score. The extra point attempt failed. Qose to the halftime gun Jerry Nowotny carried the ball two yards for the third touchdown of the game. Again the extra point attempt.

Swimmers defeat Tippy

By KELLI PRICE ’ The Tippecanoe Valley swim team fell to the Warriorettes last Wednesday at their home pool. Claiming seven first places, Wawasee beat their opponents 110-62 T. Carpenter took firsts in the 200 and 500 freestyle# J. Miller won the individual medley, B. Brewer took the 50 freestyle. D. Staley claimed the 100 butterfly, and the 400 freestyle relay team. Brewer, Lowe, Kroh, Carpenter, came out with a first in their race. Rose Easley won the diving competition and achieved a new personal record of 195.5. Chuck Whalen caught the six-yard aerial. This time Milsted was able to kick the extra point. Wawasee got its lone score in the final stanza on a 66-yard burst by Dave Johnson. Warsaw outswims Warriorettes

By KELLI PRICE The strong, first-year Warsaw swim team defeated Wawasee at the Warsaw pool last Monday With a score of 30. Wawasee attempted to out-do the Warsaw girls 53. The Warriorettes were in there fighting, as they exhibited fine swimming and many high pia rings Sophomore Laura Kroh took Wawasee s only first in swimming, as she won the 500 freestyle race. Junior Nancy Amos captured first in diving, coming within three points of the school record. Wawasee's season standings are 4-3. Next they will try to

The sectional will begin at Columbia City this Thursday. Wawasee finished up their season last Thursday against Bremen. The varsity won and brought their record to 6-6. They have a 3-4 conference total. The junior varsity lost, to end their season with 2-10 standings. ’ The Warriorettes drew a bye for sectional placement so they will play the winner of the Whitko-Warsaw match. The WHS team plays Saturday, Oct. 29, at 6:30 p.m. The game will be at Columbia City. The sectional schedule is as follows: Whitko vs Warsaw, Thursday, 6:30. Wawasee vs winner, Saturday, 6:30. Churubusco vs Tippe Valley, Thursday. Manchester vS Columbia City, Thursday. Winners, Saturday. Championship, Saturday. Freshmen football team ends season The Warrior freshman football team ended its record with a loss to Rochester 28-8 on October 20. It completed the season with a 4-2 record. Rochester scored in each quarter while Wawasee was only able to get across the mark once, in the third stanze on a 40-yard run by Tony Miller. John Lock threw to Dan Godfrey for two to give the Warriors their eight points. Godfrey made five catches in all for 34 yards. Lambert introduces prospective varsity basketball team members

Jerry Lambert, head basketball coach at Wawasee High School introduced several prospective members of the varsity basketball team for the 1977-78 school year during a meeting of the Wawasee Kiwanis Club last Saturday morning, Oct. 22. Lambert discussed the team’s chances for success. He also discussed the fundamental skill development progression program that has been implemented in the Lakeland Community School Corporation. This program starts with boys from the sixth grade through the varsity level and includes many drills and basketball fundamentals that help train a prospective player. Lambert pointed out that a boy must have natural ability, but he can also improve his skills by following a

Forty-nine 4-H and Future Farmers of America soils judging teams from 33 Indiana counties will compete in the 24th annual state soils judging contest Saturday, Oct. 29, in Morgan County. The program concluded with Lambert saying basketball is a very important part of a boy’s life, but, in all programs, the main objectives are to teach the boys how to follow orders, respect for the coach and fellow teammates, good citizenship and the ability for them to work together as a team to achieve these goals. In other business, Bob Long was elected to the board of directors of the Wawasee Kiwanis Club for the 1977-78 year. Several members of the Lakeland Kiwanis Club were in attendance for the meeting.

tinsville High School, beginning at 8 a.m., and the first group will leave for the judging site at 9 a.m. Some 200 boys and girls and their coaches will participate. Contestants will judge at four different pits during the morning, then return to the school for lunch. Prior to announcing winners of the state contest, awards will be made to those winning the Purdue University Invitational Soils Judging meet held in September.
