HAVING WINNING SEASON — The freshman football squad of Wawasee High School is having a winning 3-1 season thus far. Two opponents. Plymouth and Rochester remain.

Nearing the end of a winning season, the Wawasee High School freshman football squad has onlytwo more contests to go. The previously untested team has practiced and played, reaching a 3-1 record thus far into the season. Tomorrow night (Thursday), the team will pit themselves against Plymouth and finish the season against Rochester next Thursday on home ground. “They (Plymouth and Rochester) generally have good teams.” said coach George Warriorettes lose to Rochester By KELLI PRICE Both the varsity and junior varsity WHS volleyball teams lost to Rochester, at Rochester, last Thursday. Rochester's varsity defeated Wawasee in two games with scores of 15-8. 15-7. Lorene Spearman contributed two winning spikes for the Warriorettes. The junior varsity came out no better, also losing their first two games 13-15, 1-15. The varsity record now comes to 4-5 season standings and 2-3 in the conference. The JV holds a 17 total. The Warriorettes will be in action again tomorrow (Thursday) against North Wood. there. Vitaniemi. ■» Vitaniemi has stressed both defense and offense equally to the squad, as he presently has five or six players playing on both units. Two of his players have suffered serious injuries and are lost for the rest of the season. Kurt Clevenger, who played center, and Ron Bjella won't see any more action in a jersey this year. To try and fill the center position left by Clevenger, Vitaniemi and assistant coach Gregg Minegar are testing a trio. Todd Bruner. Rick Bennett and Chuck Miller have been trying for that position.

Spikers beat West Noble

By KELLI PRICE The varsity volleyball team beat the West Noble varsity last Tuesday, at West Noble. The girls played a three game set, winning the last two. to take the match. The lost the first 3-15 but stopped their opponents 13-11, 15-0 to claim the 'victory in the last two games. Leading the team with three winning serves was senior Shelley Dahlstrom. The Warriorettes on the junior varsity squad fell to West Noble's JV in three games. The won the first 15-8 but lost the remaining games 9-15 6-15. Two two-way players, who are cited as the leading defensive players, are Oscar Hernandez and Bruce Rookstool. Scott Coffin plays defensive tackle on the unit and Lance Clark is stationed in the defensive halfback spot. Tony Miller is the leading scorer for the team. He scored three touchdowns in what Vitaniemi termed the best offensive game they have played this season. “We've got some kids now that are starting to block like they should.” Vitaniemi commented. He added this fact has helped the team's scoring.
