Record number of people tour Palace of Sports
A record number of 11.289 persons representing 34 states and 12 countries toured the International Palace of Sports in North Webster, in this season it was revealed today by Tim Moser, executive director of the International Palace of Sports Youth Foundation, a non-profit public foundation dedicated to youth through sports The International Palace of Sports is the world’s only building specifically designed to link sports personalitied to deserving youths and career awards. On permanent display are wax figures of eighteen sports greats such as O. J. Simpson. Jesse Owens. Arnold Palmer, Babe Ruth. then, with donations from the public through the King of Sports Youth Program co-sponsored by Kiwanis International, the foundation has awarded over $50,000 to youth causes. This year visitors came from all parts of the world to view this unique museum Among the countries represented were Japan. Germany, the Republic of South Africa. England and Italy. Elementary School LRC. Upcoming events were discussed. A book fair is to be held Thursday. Oct. 6. in the Elementary LRC during open house and also on Wednesday and Thursday. Oct. 5 and 6. in the Junior High LRC. Books for all ages will be available at both places. Also discussed, was the upcoming Halloween Carnival. The carnival will be held October 26 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. This is the main money making project for the PTO Anyone wishing to help out, should call Steven Bartow or Mrs. Steven Smith. The next executive board meeting of the PTO will be October 19 at noon in the Elementary- LRC. Everyone is welcome to attend. Capsicum annum is a species of pepper related to the potato, tomato and the egg plant, not to the pier nigrum plants that produce the black and white peppers we use as condiments. Charles Hassell, new lieutenant governor of Land of Lakes division of Kiwanis Indiana district, was in charge of the induction ceremony. Special awards were presented to Chris Koher for sponsoring new members and to Don Martin for interclubs for the past Kiwanis year. Paul Steffen, apkulturist, was guest speaker for the Kiwanis audience. He described the structure of a bee hive and explained how bees live and produce honey.

Mary Lou Smith returns from AIFS workshop
Mary Lou Smith of Warsaw Community High School has recently returned from a workshop sponsored by the American Institute For Foreign Study (AIFS) in Washington, D C. The topic of the workshop was "Educational Travel Abroad: The Many Options Available to Students Today.” Mrs. Smith is the regional area administrator for the American Institute For Foreign Study and has been trained in counseling high school and junior high school students who are interested in traveling abroad. The possibilities for educational travel abroad are endless for students today. Organized programs range from one week during the winter, spring and summer vacation periods to two to six week study and travel programs during the summer to full year and semester programs at major European Universites for students completing high school early or for students who want to spend an interim year studying abroad. Mrs. Smith is available to Rhonda Hurd graduates with honors from BSU Rhonda E. Hurd, Milford, graduated from Ball State University during summer commencement with cum laude honors. She received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. Joseph Espey, registrar, said that students graduating summa cum laude have a grade point ratio for four years of undergraduate work of 3.8 or above out of a possible 4.0 — all A's Magna cum laude students have grade point ratio of 3.6 to 3.799. and cum laude, 3.4 to 3 599 Miss Hurd is a daughter erf Robert Hurd, box 55.
