Barbee Hoosier Club enjoys carry-in dinner
Bouquets of fresh cut flowers adorned the tables for the September 7 carry-in dinner and business meeting of Barbee Hoo6ier Club. Roll call was answered by 16 members. Ruth Butler, president, was in charge of the business session. She read cards of appreciation from the family of David Lawson. Plans were discussed for “Clean Up Day” to be held October 1. Guests present were Mary Ernest, Marion, and Esther Gore, Florida. Following dinner and the business session games were played The floral table decorations were used as game prize awards. Kathleen Weghorst was chairman of the dinner com mittee She was assisted by Agnes VanCurren and Bertha Royer The October meeting will be held at Barbee Conservation Club building. Barbee Ladies have carry-in A carry-in dinner was served at noon when Barbee Ladies Christian Service members met September 8 in the fellowship room at Barbee Community Church Margaret Welker, president, was in charge of the business session The Bible Study series of II Peter was completed. It was followed by group discussion. Due to conflicting dates the scheduled visit to a local nursing home has been postponed Harry Heches attend family reunion recently Mr and Mrs Harry Heche and family, North Webster, attended a family reunion held recently in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Calkins. Sechrist 65's entertained in Emmert home Mrs. Carolyn Emmert was hostess for the Sepember 7 meeting of Sechrist Sixty-Five Extension Homemakers Club. Mrs. Jerry Badskev assisted the hostess Devotions were read by Norma Boyer Her topic was "Bringing Up Children ” The lesson "Vitamins-Use and Abuse” was given by Diane Williams. Other reports were given by: Laurel Shoemaker, health and safety. Mrs Williams, cultural arts; Jeanette Schidler, citizenship and Lynn Atwood, garden remakrs. Mrs Badskey will be hostess for the October meeting. She will be assisted by Janet Allen Steve Bailey is new choir director at UM Steve Bailey, director of music at North Webster Junior High School, will be the new choir director at North Webster United Methodist Church. Choir practice has started and is being held each Wednesday night, at 7 p m New members are welcome to participate.

North Webster Church of God Teacher's meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m., September 22. Youth from North Webster Church of God attended a District Rally held September 10, at Huntington Senior High Youth from North Webster Church of God are planning a "Canoe, Camp and Coming-in” event to be held September 17 and 18. -NWMeda Bontrager injured in crush Meda Bontrager, 17, 71674 CR 133 Syracuse, was injured in a one-car accident at 10:55 p.m. last Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the “T” junction of CR 146 and CR 23 New Paris. She was taken to Goshen Hospital for mouth injuries. She underwent surgery last Wednesday morning. The Syracuse driver was eastbound on CR 146 at the time of the accident and failed to see the stop sign at the "T” junction. She then crossed CR 23 and crashed into a ditch and fence post. Damage was set at S4OO to her car. Area woman treated after one-car accident A one-car accident on Armstrong Road, one mile southwest of North Webster, at 1:15 p.m. last Tuesday. Sept. 6. resulted in $1,200 damage. Mary M. McCarel. 24. r 1 North Webster, was driving on the road when her car went out of control and struck a pole. She went off the road for approximately 75 feet before hitting a deep ditch and striking the pole. She was treated and released from Kosciusko Community Hospital for cuts on the lower lip and legs as well as chest pains. North Webster EMS treated her for injuries at the scene.

1 Y&AR AGO, SEPT. 15,1976 A new service, to provide one hot meal per day on a five-day-per-week basis, began Monday noon at the Syracuse Scout Cabin, with 21 aged persons as recipients. Georgia Buster is director of the Syracuse site. Parents of Syracuse kindergarten students, numbering 15, attended the Lakeland school board meeting last night to inform the board of an overcrowding problem involving their children. Deb Manges served as spokesperson for the parents. She said the parents feel the number of kindergarten students in two of the 31 student sections is quite large. Saturday was the last day of employment at the Syracuse license branch for LaVada Dean, a right hand girl at the branch, off and on, for the past 25 years. It s retirement for eight-year Vega Corp. veteran Nina (Mrs. Gene) Allie as she punched out last Wednesday. At other jobs she's been a waitress at the Frog and elsewhere over the years, having a wide acquaintance of friends. 5 YEARS AGO,, SEPT. 13. 1972 Mr. and Mrs.’’John VanLue of 155 North Shore drive, Syracuse, announce the engagement of their daughter, Dianne Lee, to Stephen E. Nathaniel Crow Fick, Jr., of Crow’s Nest, Lake Wawasee, has been accepted by the University of Baltimore law school and reported to the university orientation just prior to Labor Day. Ted Auer and Harold Bartman. 10 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 13, 1967 Vincent Doyle, former sports director and general sales manager for WSJV-TV, Elkhart, has joined the faculty of Wawasee Preparatory, Syracuse. A 1948 Notre Dame graduate magna cum laude with a major in physical education and a minor in English, Mr. Doyle will head the preparatory school's speech department and coach the basketball team. SEPT. 12,1957 Richard Kowallik, son of Mr and Mrs. Leo Kowallik, was awarded scouting’s highest honor on Saturday night 7 September as he received the badge of an Eagle Scout before an audience of relatives and friends which filled the Scout Cabin. Dick, who is the first Syracuse scout to receive the Eagle rank in several years, was awarded the badge by Scoutmaster Jack Ridings. Jerry Firestone’s yard light, which was a county fair winner this year, took another blue ribbon at the State Fair last week. James Waltz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earle Waltz of Lake Wawasee, formerly of Go6hen, has returned from a ten week summer school session with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology 7 at their school for geological sciences in Nova Scotia. SEPT. 16, 1932 According to W.M. Spoonmoore. in charge of Wawasee Fish Hatchery, 20,000 of the No. 1 large mouthed bass; 10,000 of the No. 1 small mouthed bass; 1,200,000 wall eyed pike; 10,000 red eyes. 10,000 red eared sun fish; 30,000 blue gills, 2,000 small mouthed baas 3 in. in length; and 1,000 large mouthed bass 5 inches in length have been placed in Lake Wawasee and Syracuse lake this year. Residents of Syracuse and Lake Wawasee were treated to a surprise Saturday at the noon hour when five “Hell Diver” airplanes from the Great Lakes Naval Training station in Chicago demonstrated some real flying. Trustees of the townships of Kosciusko County, their wives and families held their annual picnic here in Syracuse, last Sunday. The meeting was held at the High School building. W. E. Long returned to his lake home Saturday after a business trip in the east. He said it was almost unbearable hot in New York City, Labor Day. customer having 1 horsepower or more in 3 phase motors connected and available for operation simultaneously. Character of Service Alternating current, sixty cycle, at any available three phase voltage in me area, or single phase service at a voltage of ap proximately 120 volts two-wire, or 120-240 volts three-wire. The Utility will supply service from its electrical supply lines at only such frequency, phase, regulation and primary voltage as it has available in the location where service is required, and. if transformation of voltage is desired by the customer, will transform its primary voltage to one standard secondary voltage as hereinabove set forth. Any applicant requiring service differing from that to be supplied by the Utility as herein provided shall provide proper converting, tran storming, regulating, or other equipment upon his own premises and at his own expense. Rates Rates charged for service rendered under mis schedule are based upon the measurement of the electrical energy at a voltage supplied to the customer on the secondary side of the transformers 'furnished by me Utility. The rates for electrical energy supplied hereunder shall be as follows: 9.6 cents per kilowatt-hour for me first 100 kilowatt hours used per month 4.5 cents per kilowatt-hour for the next 900 kilowatt-hours used per month 4.9 cents per kilowatt hour for the next 1,000 kilowatt-hours used per month 4.2 cents per kilowatt hour for the next 5.000 kilowatt-hours used per month r-r~a.4 cents per kilowatt-hour for all over 7,000 kilowatt-hours used per month Minimum Payment The minimum monthly payment tor service shall be as follows: First 10 horsepower $1.23 per h.p. Rates Street Lighting: The rate for street lighting shall be $3.19
per light per month Municicial Water Utility Services: The rate for municipal power for pumping water for water works shall be me regular power rate with 10% discount. Fuel Cost Adjustment The monthly bill for metered service computed according to the above schedule shall be subject to adjustment based upon me Utility's fuel adjustment charge for purchased power. The fuel cost adjustment in dollars per Kwh shall be the same as that most recently billed to the Etna Green Municipal Electric Utility by its purchased power supplier less S.OOOOOOO per Kwhr. Term of Payment Bills shall be rendered and due annually. Rate "SL" ETNA GREEN (INDIANA) MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC UTILITY SECURITY LIGHTING To Whom Available Availabe for DUSK TO DAWN OUTDOOR LIGHTING SERVICE for lighting en trances, driveways, and other private areas to customers who are located on me Utility's electric supply lines suitable and adequate for supplying the service requested. Character of Service The Utility will install, own and maintain a bracket mounted suburban type lighting fixture including photo electric control. Rate Per Month (a) Where the lighting fixture can be installed on an existing distribution type wood pole or other supporting device and served from existing secondary facilities, with not more than one span of secondary, the rate shall be: $3.64 per light for 175 watt mercury vapor lamp (b) If additional facilities are required to furnish service hereunder,, me Utility will install, operate and maintain such facilities. The labor, material and overhead cost of installation of such additional facilities and maintenance expense thereof shall be at the customer's expense Deferred Payment All bills on the above -schedule sffelt be rendered and due monthly. If not paid by the fifteenth day following the date of bill, there shall be added ten percent (1(7*.) of the lint $3.000f me bill, plus three percent (3%) of the bill in excess of $3.00. Remittances sent by mail on or previous to the fifteenth of the month, as evidenced by the U. S. Term of Service Any customer requesting service under this rate shall make written applicatidh for such service for an initial period of one year, and such service shall continue from year to year thereafter unless cancelled by either party. Reconnection Charge Whenever the service is turned off for non payment of bill, or whenever for any reason beyond the control of Utility a re establishment of service is required by any one customer more often than once in a twelve month period, a charge of $lO 00 will be made by the Utility to cover a part of the cost of discontinuance and re establishment of service. Terms and Conditions of Service (1) The Utility shall adjust the automatic control on each installation to provide lighting service from dusk to dawn each night Lamp replacements and repairs will be made within a reasonable period of time, during regular working hours, after customer's notification of the need for such maintenance (2) The facilities installed by the Utility shall remain the property of the Utility and may be removed by the Utility If service Is discontinued Submitted for consideration of the Board of Trustees of the Civil Town of Etna Green, Indiana, this 29th day of August, 1977, and adopted by said Board.
