needs. At least it wasn’t as expensive this year the mother says because some of her children had jobs over the summer. “The kids did a lot of buying themselves. The second thing that had to be done to get ready for another year of school was a trip to the doctor. She said many of her children are involved in sports at school and they had to get physical examinatins. Her two oldest. Lisa and Ellen, a sophomore and freshman at Wawasee High School, are involved in swimming. Her other two school age children. Angie, seventh grade, and Mike, second grade, are also
involved in various Sport and related activities. Angie will attend Syracuse Junior High School while Mike is enrolled at Syracuse Elementary School. - A trip to the dentist and eye doctor was also a part of Mrs. Meek's pre-school preparations. She said two children needed new eyeglasses. Trying to make dentist appointments also kept Mrs Meek busy. Even with all the preparations, Mrs. Meek says she will be sad to see her children go back to school. Her children won’t be all that sad, though, says the Syracuse mother. “I think they're ready to get back into some kind of routine."
Glon’s Getting Ready The John Glon family of r 4 Syracuse is also busy with before school preparations. Nancy Glon, who has five children in school this year, says clothes and scheduling are the two main areas she is concerned with in getting ready for school. During the past few weeks, she has taken each of her children shopping to make sure all have enough clothes, shoes and gym shoes to last through the year. “I make sure everyone has enough so I won’t have to wash every day.” Mrs. Glon says this is especially important since she. too. attends school in the fall working at Wawasee High School. The busy mother also is now preparing many foods ahead of time and storing them in the freezer for later use. This is helpful she says because of all the children's different eating schedules. "We very rarely all eat together at the same time.” Transportation is another major concern of the Syracuse mother in getting ready for back to school. Three of her children are involved in football and three also work. She siad three runs are usually made after school at 3:30 p.m,, 5 p m . and again at 11 p.m. to make sure everyone gets picked-up and taken to where they need to" go. "We make sure everyone gets to where they need to be at the right time.” Getting back into a school routine is yet another area in preschool preparations Nancy Glon says the family has to get used to early waking hours and early bed time hours. Scheduling bath times is alsc imqprtant in this large household Mrs. Glon says they make sure everyone gets his or her allotted times both in the mornings and at night and still leave enough time to dress and
eat breakfast before catching the bus. She said. “It’s a matter of scheduling.” Attending school from the Glon household this fall are Jim, senior and student body president at Wawasee High School; Jackie, junior at Wawasee High School; Josette.
