Tippy Homemakers hold 'Christmas in August'
Tippecanoe Township Extension Homemakers CJub held a "Christmas In August" party dn August 17, at a local restaurant. Members of the planning committee were Nema Collins, chairman; Edna Lawson. Fanny Scoville and Dorthea Kurth. Each lady brought a wrapped Christmas gift for her secret pal. The gifts were placed around a Christmas tree adorned with ornaments brought by members A wrought iron basket filled with greenery and featuring white candles in green glass candle holders, highlighted the officers table. Favors of red felt roses with green leaves were used as individual napkin rings. Happy Birthday was sung to ladies having birthdays in August with organ accompaniment by Mabie Gee They were presented with gifts from their secret pals Tickets were distributed for the upcoming theater party. Reservations were 4 taken for the fall trip. Clare Brodderick is chairman for the event. Registration blanks for Homemakers Camp were also distributed Ladies winning ribbons at the county fair are asked to take them to the September meeting so group photographs can be taken for the club scrapbook Mrs Gee gave devotions en

Thrifty Homemakers learn about safety
Mrs. Walter Davis was hostess for the August 17 meeting of Thrifty Homemakers Home Extension Club. Safety during electrical storms was discussed by Ruby Riemersma as the health and safety lesson. Mrs. Lewis Crofts cultural arts topic was “James Whitcomb Riley.”
Barbee Cottage Owners to hold open meeting
An open meeting, with the public urged to attend, will be held at 2 pm., August 27, at Barbee Conservation Club building. The meeting is being sponsored by Barbee Cottage Owners Association. Retirement confab set A Creative Retirement Conference will be held September 6, 7, 8 and 9, at Epworth Forest. Further information may be obtained by calling the office at North W’ebster United Methodist Church. Mrs. Patterson entertains for Crossroads Crossroads Extension Homemakers Club members met August 16 in the home of Mrs. Neva Patterson: Devotions were given by Burrlene Harris. Discussion was held concerning the groups recent ride around Webster Lake on the Dixie Boat. Roll call response was what country I would like to visit and why. The county extension homemakers constitution was read by Louise Martin. Bertha Lozier presented garden remarks. Mrs. Robert Stump was a guest. The September meeting will be held in the home of Bernie Senger. Chelsea Buckmaster visiting relatives Miss Chelsea Buckmaster, is spending two weeks visiting with her grandmother and greatgrandmother. Mrs. Linda Silvey and Mrs. Virginia Mosier, both of Leesburg Chelsea is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Buckmaster. Union City. Ohio.
Destruction of this year’s tomato crop by insects and disease was the theme of Mrs. Paul Rager s garden remarks. Ethel Muhhollen was welcomed as a new member. The door prize of a potted African violet was presented to Mrs. Forest Tinkey Mrs. Tinkey will be hostess for the September meeting.
Thames Mauzy and an official from the state department of natural resources are being invited to attend. One of the topics to be discussed concerns the open speed limit and water skiing regulations now in effect on the Barbee Lakes. Property owners will be given an opportunity to express their views and ask questions. Any interested person who is unable to attend the meeting may send their questions with a friend or neighbor. COMMUNITY NEWS Goldie Hunnicutt, North Webster, has just returned home from a trip to several Western states. She visited relatives in Oklahoma. New Mexico and California. Nannette Dipert and Frances Bieber attended the choir school held last week at Epworth Forest. Greg Henderson attended Junior High Camp held last week at Epworth Heights. North W’ebster United Methodist Church Family Picnic will be held at 12:30 p.m., September 11, at Epworth Forest Those attending are asked to take a covered dish and their own table service. Tippecanoe Township HobbyClub members will meet August 25 in the home of Mrs. Frank Golden. Barbee Lake Mr. and Mrs. Howard Koenigshof, r 1 Pierceton, have just returned home from a vacation trip to Michigan. Josephine Henry. Hammersley releases report of July department activities
Kosciusko County Sheriff John E. Hammersley has released the following report for the month of July on activities of his department: The 10 vehicles were driven a total of 25,866 miles. Officers answered 459 complaints plus an additional 31 off duty complaints. They served 281 papers and made 30 traffic arrests. The accident report shows the following: Fatals 2 Cars involved 137 Injured 43 Arrests 1 Total accidents 80 A total of 53 of the accidents were in day light hours, 24 at night and three at dawn or dusk Estimated damages were set at $130,630 with property damages

HONEY COOKIES (Amish Cookie Recipe) Cream 14 cups margarine Add 2 cups granulated sugar Blend in 2 eggs 4 cup honey 4 tablespoons milk 2 teaspoons vanilla Add 5 cups flour, 3 teaspoons soda, 14 teaspoons salt. 14 teaspoons nutmeg. 14 teaspoons cinnamon. Beat and mix well. Chill, then form dough into balls and dip in milk and then sugar (makes glaze on top). Bake sugar side up in 370 degree oven 8-10 minutes. Let stand briefly before removing from pan. Here's what's cooking!
1 cup raisins 4 cup milk Beat together butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat an egg to blend thoroughly. Sift together flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg Sift half of the dry ingredients into creamed mixture, stir in pecans, apples and raisins. Then stir in remaining dry ingredients and 4 cup milk, mix well. Drop < from tablespoon 14 inch apart onto lightly greased baking sheet and bake in 375 degree oven, 10 to 12 minutes. Remove to cook and while still warm spread on glaze. Glaze: 14 cup powdered sugar 1 tablespoon butter 24 tablespoons milk 4 teaspoon vanilla Combine confectioners sugar with butter, vanilla and enough milk to make this of spreading consistency. Beat until smooth and spread on warm cookie. This recipe makes about three dozen cookies. Kline ' Charm ’N Chatter Club OLD FASHION SUGAR COOKIES First part: mix well 1 cup shortening 2 eggs 2 cups sugar 1 tsp. soda Second part: sift well together 1 tsp. nutmeg 4 tsp. salt 2 tsp. baking powder As you start mixing the first part with the second part, you gradually add 1 cup buttermilk. Be sure to have enough flour to have a nice soft dough. Roll out at least one-third inch thick. Cut with round cutter. Drop in granulated sugar, place on cookie sheet, with sugar side up. Put a seeded raisin in middle of each one and bake in a moderate oven until straw color.
