Mr. and Mrs. Ned Ratcliff of Mississippi are spending some time with Mrs. Zona Deeter and other relatives and friends. - Miss Rhonda Hurd has accepted teaching employment in the Whitley County schools. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Morehouse attended the Lowman family reunion Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Fultz of Fort Wayne. Mrs. Herbert Morehouse spent last week at Camp Good News at North Webster as a kitchen helper while her granddaughter. Candace Bowman, was dining room helper and grandson. Ferverda girls win honors at county 4-H fair A week at the 4-H fair was a good week for Amy, Kay and Judi Ferverda. Amy received a trophy for dairy junior showmanship and first place with her fall senior heiffer. Kay won a third with her summer senior heifer and fifth with a fall senior heifer. Judi got a fourth with her summer senior and a fifth with her summer yearling. The girls received a trophy for beef dean pens. On Saturday they showed their eight bead of registered Hdsteins in the open show and placed second in junior get and fourth in three best females. They are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Don Ferverda of North Webster and are members of the Wee Webster Workers 4-H Club.

Nancy Coates to speak at UM Church Nancy Coates, a missionary to New Guinea, will be guest speaker tonight (August 17) at 7:30 p.m., at North Webster United Methodist Church. She will show slides and discuss her mission work and activities. She has been in New Guinea since 1974 teaching the children of missionaries and also conducting classes for the natives. Barbee Ladies discuss II Peter Barbee Ladies Christian Service met August 11 in the Barbee Community Church. Orpha Foster played the piano for group singing. The lesson discussion was held concerning the second chapter of II Peter. Margaret Welker, president, was in charge of the business session. The minutes of the last meeting were read by Marjorie Spiegel. She also gave the treasurer’s report. It was decided a group project of making lap robes will be started. The robes are to be given to shut-ins and nursing home patients at Christmas time. It was also decided that help would be given to Hephizabah House, Warsaw, in the form of donated items. A carry-in dinner was served at noon. Pythian Sisters meet August 8 There were 12 ladies present for the August 8 meeting of North Webster Pythian Sisters. Imogine Menzie, Most Excellent Chief, was in charge of the meeting. Discussion was held concerning the upcoming Past Chiefs meeting. Following the business session euchre was played. Refreshments were served by Jan Moore and Imogene Menzie. COMMUNITY NEWS Members of Goodwill Builders Sunday school class at North Webster United Methodist Church enjoyed a carry-in supper held August 13 in the church basement. A special “Family Fun Night” will be held at 7:30 p.m., August 31, at North Webster Church of God.

Past Chiefs enjoy euchre ■ i Myrtle Greisinger read the minutes of the July meeting to open the August 10 meeting of North Webster Past Chiefs of the Pythian Sisters. Catherine Bause, Mother of The Temple, was presented with a gown and robe in honor of her birthday. The presentation was made by Imogene Menzie, most excellent chief. There were 10 members and two guests present. The guests were Dee Vanator and Effie Vanator Following the business session euchre was played. the hostess, Alice Kissinger. Virginia Spry will be hostess for the September meeting. Chit Chat Club entertained in Creighton home Members of Chit Chat Extension Homemakers Club met August 9 in the home of Marge Creighton. Mary Lou Whiehead assisted the hostess. The lesson “Vitamins — Use and Abuse” was given by Mary Lou Cendrich and Judy Paton. Several members received gifts from their secret pals. The club’s family picnic was held in July at Lake Tippecanoe. Penny Houtz was welcomed as a new member. Becky Pritchard will be hostess for the September meeting.
