Farmers urged to submit their acreage reports Kosciusko County farmers are reminded to report their 1977 planted acreage of all crops to the US Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service by August 31. “These acreage reports may assist farmers to receive program benefits next year, so crops should be accurately reported, said Phil Braman of the local ASCS office. Crops should be reported on a field-by-field basis. He explained that the information may be needed to determine eligibility for participation in 1978 programs. If a set-aside is required for 1978, proposed farm legislation provides that it may be based on a specific percentage of the acreage planted in 1977. “It is anticipated that the 1978 programs will apply to all procedures, those without allotments as well as those with allotments,’’ Braman said. “All 1977 grain producers should report their acres, even if they have not had cause to do so in the past because they had no allotment.” - ASCS previously asked for crop acreages before harvest. However, many wheat farmers were not able to report before harvest. Farmers who have harvested wheat should report the acreage as soon as possible, while evidence of the crop is still apparent. Epilepsy services offered Kosciusko County residents
South Bend is among seven Indiana communities selected for participation in a statefanded pilot project providing services to persons with epilepsy. Included are services to residents of Kosciusko County. The epilepsy services office is located at 1235 N. Eddy Street, South Bend. Calls will be taken from 8 to 5 p.m. According to Louise Soetenga, coordinator for the program, the epilepsy services being offered will include information, referral and counselling. “Perhaps the most important service offered through the Ms. Soetenga notes, “is that of individual, group and family counselling by professionals trained in the psychological and social aspects of epilepsy.’’ Based on the latest available incidence rates for epilepsy disorders, it is estimated that there are as many as 600 people in Kosciusko County alone having some form of epilepsy. With advances in modern medication, however, many with epilepsy are able to completely control seizures and live and work in the community without ever showing signs of the disorder. “For most people with epilepsy, however, there are social and psychological adjustments that must be made even after the physical problem of having seizures is solved” Soetenga stresses. The counselling services are being offered to assist individuals with epilepsy, as well as their families, in making those psychological and social ad-

Unfortunately, this creates a stigma with which everyone having epilepsy must cope. The epilepsy services program is part of the Epilepsy Care Program, which became public law in Indiana in 1975.
