Lee Ann will be a senior at Wawasee High School this fall. Mr. and Mrs. Karl N. Bender of Fremont and Mount Dora, Fla., formerly of Syracuse, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary’ with a reception from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20. at the American State Bank hospitality room, Ligonier. AUG. 16,1967 Hundreds of teenage explorers, sea scouts, senior girl scouts and mariner units from Ohio, Illinois, Michigan. Wisconsin and Indiana are expected to begin arriving in Syracuse on Friday for the annual Makahiki. The Makahiki is an invitation to an Hawaiian style adventure and is set to be held on Friday. Saturday and Sunday. Members of the Lakeland School board honored former board president James C. Stucky at a dinner at a Warsaw restaurant last night, and presented him with an attractive desk pen set. Mr. Stucky served first on the Turkey Creek Township Metropolitan school board, then on the interim school board in November of 1962. Hear report on advisory committee Members of the Turkey Creek Conservation Club, Syracuse, heard a report from President Bob Baugher at a meeting last Thursday. Aug. 11, in the club house on SR 13A. The report was on the newlyappointed advisory committee to the department of natural resources. It was also decided at the meeting that another hunter safety program will be held in the near future. The club will also hold an open house September 2425, National Hunting and Fishing Day. Special programs, displays and speakers will be featured. Bluebird boxes were also built at the meeting. The sign in the |lassroom read “Have fun. kids. It’s lata on you’ll think.” The youngster gave this assessment of kindergarten: “Well, I do learn quite a bit of stuff, but it sure cuts into my day.”
