One-of-a-kind car bought by Eugene Smith at auction
Eugene Smith, Marise s Town and Lake Shop, Syracuse, is the proud new owner of Leonard Greer's one-of-a-kind car, auctioned off last Saturday. Smith said his interest in the car is to fix it up. “It is so unusual, pretty well handmade." He said he plans to put it in first class shape and use it for showing He said a great deal of work needs to be done on the car. even though it is in running condition. Some body work, mechanical wort, painting and chrome work on the fenders all need to be done before the car is in first-class shape. The car, originally owned and made by Harry Nicolai, former Syracuse resident, was purchased by Greer eight years ago. Nicolai, now deceased, built the car to promote the STP products.

The car, which is powered by a Crosley engine, has a large, tubular chassis, covered by steel sheeting and fiberglass. The car also has Crosley and Chrysler transmissions, knock-off hubs and an electrical system designed to raise or lower each wheel independently. Greer, who changed the exhaust system and did some work on the chrome, decided to sell the car because he spends so much of his time away from the Syracuse area. Greer lives at SR 13 south, Syracuse. Smith said only one other man was interested in the car at the auction. "There wasn’t as much interest in it as I thought there would be." He bought the car for an undisclosed amount of money.

Kiwanis Club hears history of Webster
Mrs. Kip Sullivan was guest speaker for the Kiwanis Club of Lakeland, North Webster, on August 1. She described how her husband. Kip, after he was paralyzed because of an automobile accident in 1965 was able to write. He authored a book entitled “North Webster from Boydston’s Mill to Camelot Square" before he died on May 12 of this year. In his book, which is a unique history of North Webster and Tippecanoe Township, the author empasizes people, places and things. Among the most interesting people described in the book is Maude Willis, who was known for her wit and entertainment which she provided for many groups in this and surrounding communities. She formed the Maude Willis Concert Company and through the Chautauqua circuit performed in every state in the union and in many parts of Canada. Willis Park, now a part of North Webster, was named after her family. Outstanding in famous places mentioned in the book for the Lakeland area is the Continental Divide directing the flow of

surface water. It crosses state road 13 just north of North Webster. Another well known place was Ervin s Drug Store, a
favorite gathering place for natives and lakers in North Webster. Mrs. Sullivan called attention
to three things, the Ruth automobile, the North Webster band and the Dixie Boat which helped to attract people to this area. The Ruth automobile was manufactured in North Webster in 1907 and was named after daughters of each of the three owners with that name. Band concerts were given once each week in a circular bandstand located on the comer which is the , present site of Camelot Square. The “Dixie” was preceded by a single deck stem wheeler called “City of Webster” and the present paddle wheel Dixie boat war constructed iq 1929. The town of North Webster was first knonw as Boydston’s Mill and the first post office was established under' that name in 1849 and on August 19,1879, it was changed to North Webster. North Webster was officially incorporated as a town in 1937. STATES HONORED By vote of Congress, an authentic copy of the Declaration of Independence was sent to each statq of the Union on Jan. 23, 1777. J
