AH Stars complete successful season
The Milford Little League AllStar team completed a very successful season with an 18 to 4 victory over Mentone. Eric Beer led the Milford attack with two home runs and a single. The victory over Mentone made Milford’s record 16 wins and two losses. This was the second year in a row that the
First annual Kiwanis contest well received by area youth
More than 50 boys and girls took part in the first annual Wawasee Kiwanis Hit, Pitch, Run and Throw contest held this past week end at Rotary Park, Syracuse. Winners in kindergarten, first and second grade divisions were: Throwing, Todd Roberts; running, Drew Rosenberry; hitting, Rob McKibben; pitching, Mike VanDiepenbos; and overall winner, Mike Clodfelter. Winners in the nine-hole division were Rosemary Lantz, low gross; Bev. low net; and Helen Moriarty, low putts. ATSOUTHSHORE The play of the day for the ladies of the South Shore Golf Club on Tuesday was The Most 6’s. Winners in nine hole play were Emma Souder and Lori Welty who finished in a tie. In a threeway tie for second place were Bertha Lehman. Ginny DeWitt and Jean Niles. Sandy Walgamuth was winner in the 18 hole play with Lee Wake placing second. Milford boys won the Mermaid Festival Tourney and went undefeated in the county Land-of-Lakes Youth League. Rick Pena and Ross Dahlstrom were the team’s pitchers. Rick Pena (.518), Eric Beer (.482), Ross Dahlstrom (.455) and Jerry Auer (.442) led the team in hitting.

The next competition between the two clubs will be the corn eating contest at the Lakeland com and sausage roast next Saturday, with competition starting at 11 a.m. and ending at 8 p.m. Trojans to begin football practice Coach Robert Cline stated this week the Milford Trojan football team will begin practice at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17. In order to participate boys must have a signed physical examination form. All sixth, seventh and eighth grade boys will need to take their gym clothing and $1.75 which covers the cost of buying a mouth guard to the practice session. Youngsters who wish to participate should call coach Cline at his home prior to August 17. BASKETBALL CAMP INFO The first day for basketball camp is Thursday, Aug. 11, at the Syracuse Junior High School, according to Lakeland Youth Center director Dan Caskey. The event will start at 9 a.m. and run August 11, 12, 15, 16. Caskey added the camp is for any boy or girl going into grades six through nine. There will be skill drills, games and contests. Youths are to be ready and dressed by 9 a.m. Life is very interesting — if you make mistakes. The toughest thing about making a living is that you have to get up and do it all over again tomorrow. A company is known by the men it keeps.
