No changes in Warsaw Schools proposed tax rates for 1978
The budget which has been proposed for the Warsaw Community School Corporation for 1978 carried the same levy as the current budget, $3.90. Both the current levy and the proposed levy list $2.75 in the general fund and $1.15 in the cumulative building fund for the

AUGUST 4,197 S Jay Peffley. manager of the Syracuse office for the Northern Indiana Public Service Company, was named to the Syracuse Library board by the town board last night, replacing Mrs. Richard Miller who resigned August 2. ; Work commenced Tuesday morning on a 5,700-foot sewer line from the 40-unit Harborside Condominium on Lake Wawasee to the town’s collector system located on the east end of Medusa Street in Syracuse. Cost of the project: An estimated $60,000. A film strip of the aerial infrared NASSA photographs taken of Turkey Creek Township was viewed Thursday evening. July 29, by members of the Syracuse Town Board and board of zoning appeals. Viewing of the film strip was requested by the Syracuse plan commission, since its members are seeking authorization of a $l5O expenditure from the town board to complete the township filming. The Syracuse Little League travel team won the local fourway tourney held at the Rotary park recently. Syracuse defeated Pierceton in the first game 13-7. 5 YEARS AGO. AUGUST 2,1972 Lake Wawasee was a colorful sight Friday, Saturday and Sunday as 18 participants in the First Championship Regetta, Midwest District, National M. Scow Association, set sail in a warm summer breeze for that would take winners to the national competition at Oshkosh, Wise., races August 25, 26 and 27. The Calvary United Methodist Church south of Syracuse was the setting for the Saturday afternoon wedding uniting in marriage Miss Sheryl Raye Butler of Syracuse and Daniel Fuller Brown of Milford. Mrs. Paul (Roberta Crow) McClintic of Toledo, Ohio, formerly of Syracuse sent us an article which appeared in the Toledo Sunday Blade. The article is about Robert Brown of Toledo, son of Frank Brown. The elder Brown resides in Syracuse in the summer and with his son Robert in the winter. The article tells of Robert M. Brown and his ‘working buddy* 500-lime. His ‘buddy* is a seven-passenger model 18 twin Beechcraft airplane. The airplane was built in 1948 and has been wellmaintained over the years. !• YEARS AGO. AUGUST 2.1987 Two Syracuse men, who are serving aboard the USS Forrestal, hit by fire Saturday, are reported as safe. Aboard the giant* aircraft carrier are Richard Coy and Sanford Mullet, whose wives reside in Syracuse. Twenty-two Scouts of Syracuse troop 28 returned home last Friday from a full week of camp at the Pioneer Trails Scout Camp. For the majority of the Scouts, this was their first year at council camp. Those first-year campers were Kevin Rhoades, Steve Peterson, Kris Chris Singrey, Dan Spurting, Bob Bachtel, Jerry Wright, Jeff Miller, Tom Bailey, Chuck Cleveland, Bruce Neer and Eric Kolberg. Plans for remodeling the present church building or building of a new structure have been under consideration by the Syracuse Calvary Evangelical United Brethren Church for some time. An important step was reached Sunday night when members of the church voted to remain at their present location on Benton and Harrison Streets. 45 YEARS AGO, AUGUST 4,1932 The many people who expected to see the Black Hqrse troop from Culver Military Academy go through Syracuse, yesterday morning, on the way from Winona Lake to Sargent’s Hotel, were disappointed. In order to avoid paved roads as much as possible, the troop skirted the edge of town and followed the gravel road through Pickwick to the north side of the lake. Mr. and Mrs. Eli Lilly and family returned home to Indianapolis, Monday, after spending their vacation at the lake. White will meet on August 29 to give final consideration to the 1978 budget. Said budget has levies 19*4 cents above the current levies. The reason for the increase is the addition of a levy of 20 cents for the operation of emergency medical services. This 20 cents, if approved, will raise $7,215 for the operation of the EMS during the coming year. The proposed township rate i$ line cents and would raise $3,297, the proposed rate in the fire fighting fund is 10 cents and would raise! $2,846 with the recreation rate being one cent to raise $360.' ; The current cent rate is broken down to give 11 cents to -> the township fund, eight cents to the fire fighting fund and Ito cents to the recreation fund.
