MOO domages inaccWent in parking lot A two-car collision in the Huntington building parking lot, Syracuse, resulted in S4OO damage at 11:15 p.m., Saturday, July 16. A 1973 Oldsmobile, owned by Dianna M. Elias, r 4 box 130 Syracuse, was parked in the lot when it was hit by a 1969 Dodge driven by Verio Dewey Laughlin, 700 East Baltimore Street, Syracuse. Laughlin then left the scene and failed to report the accident. He was found on July 18. Damage was set by Syracuse police at $250 to the Elias car and $l5O to the vehicle driven by Laughlin. Bumps rear of car A total of 1900 in damage was estimated in a two-car accident last week involving Deborah Henry, 22, r 1 North Webster and Stewart A. Banghart, 18, r 3 Warsaw at the intersection of West Center and North Columbia Streets in Warsaw. A truck driven by Henry bumped the rear of the car driven by Baghart. Damage was set at S6OO to Henry’s truck and S3OO to the Banghart auto. New manager Allen Shepherd has taken over the managerial position at Crystal Flash in North Webster on SR 13 North. Shepherd takes over the position formerly held by John Ditmore and Mike Mulligan who operated the station for about seven years. NEW COMMANDER — The Indiana American Legion aided its four-day session in Evansville last Sunday by electing John G. Krupa of East Chicago as its new commander. Krupa succeeds James E. Gallagher of Columbus. The new Legion Commander has a long and impressive Legion and public service record. He was a founder and charter member of Allied Post 368, East Chicago, to a past northern vice commander of the Indiana Legton and for many years was the co-chairman of the Legion’s legislative committee. The new department commander to a graduate of East Chicago Roosevelt High School, attended Indiana University and to a-veteran of the army-air force in World War 11. WHI Jr*'-' COTTAGE BURNS—Shown above to one of two cottages which burned in Oakwood Park, near the hotel, at 3:57 a.m. Friday, July 15. Damages were listed at $35,000. When firemen arrived at the scene, the first cottage was engulfed in flames" while the second cottage was only on fire at the south end. Firemen extinguished the blaze at the second cotthge and cooled the first cottage down. Firemen also treated Floyd Cripe who had reported the fire. Cripe had several minor burns on his legs. They were wrapped with sterile dressings. He declined further treatment. The home, which was engulfed with flames when firemen arrived, is shown above. 'Syracuse Community Presents Sidewalk Days'
In a meeting last night, about 40 Syracuse retail merchants from the uptown business district and Wawasee vote<Mo call their August sales promotion: “Syracuse -Community Presents . . . Sidewalk Days.” Dates for the community-wide sales event will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday, August 18, 19 and 20. Everyone Invited Les Webber, who chaired the meeting, said “everyone is invited to participate in this affair. We want to make it one of the biggest sales events in the history of the town.” Linda Crow acted as secretary $ 105,555 worth of bonds sold in Kosciusko county Kosciusko County sales of Series E and H United States Savings Bondsf were $105,555 in the month of June. , Sales in the State of Indiana were $18,696,940 reports Alfred J. Stokely, State Chairman of the Indiana Volunteer Committee. This represents 2.8 per cent of national sales of $665,000,000. Indiana has achieved 47.7 per cent of the 1977 state quota of $223,100,000. Syracuse driver cited, hits rear of another vehicle John P. Wortinger, 15425 S County Line Road, Syracuse, was arrested for driving while under the influence, following a two-vehicle accident on SR 13 in Syracuse at 10 p.rt., Sunday, July 17. Eric E. Eby of r 1 Larwill had stopped to wait for a train at the B & O railroad tracks on SR 13 when he was hit from the rear by Wortinger. Damage was set at $l5O to Eby’s car and S2OO to the car driven by Wortinger. Two cars damaged Glenn H. Rosenquist, r 1 Leesburg, was backing out of a parking space at the VFW post in Syracuse, when he hit a car driven by James L. Benson, r 2 box 4 Syracuse, at 7:28 pm. Friday, July 15. Benson was driving east on Chicago Street at the time. Damage was to the Rosenquist car and $750 to the Benson vehicle.
