Intervention Program for Kosciusko County. Lucille Koontz, long time Red Cross Volunteer, will be the coordinator

for the program in the county. This program will extend for a short two-month period and will provide assistance to low-income families. This assistance can be in the form of payments on delinquent fuel or utility bills, purchase of fuel, up to an amount of $250 and-or a direct grant of SSO to households which can show dire financial need as an outcome of having paid excessively high fuel bills this past winter. Approximately 162,000 has been allocated to Kosciusko County for this purpose. Many people are still feeling the pinch from our severe last winter and have either had their utilities shut off or are faced with a shut-off. Also individuals who use coal, heating oil, wood, or propane gas are faced with the possibility of discontinuance of deliveries due to bills in arrears. Some utilities, including Northern Indiana Public Service Company have sent letters to those customers who are behind in their bills and informed them that they might be eligible for the program. The Community Services Administration has set up income guidelines which must be met. According to the plan, income maximums for the program are: Family Non-Farm Farm Size Families Families 1 13,713 $ 3,188 2 4,913 4,200 3 6,113 5,213 4 7,313 6,225 5 8,513 7,238 6 9,713 8,250 7 10,913 9,262.50 8 12,113 10,275 9 / 13,313 11,287.50 10 14,513 12,300 People who are eligible for this program should get in touch with the coordinator at the Red Cross Office, 501 N. Lake Street, Warsaw, at the earliest possible moment. The program will be in operation only until August 26. A meeting will be held on Thursday night for administrators. trustees, agency, fuel company and utility representatives when the program will be explained more fully by Dianne Tripodi, South Bend Community Action Energy Coordinator. The meeting will be in the Commissioner’s Room at the Court House.
