Rummage sales seem to be a traditional part of summer. As soon as the weather gets warm, families take a look at accumulated items in garages and storage areas and get out the marking pens for the signs. The signs seem to come in several varieties, depending on the location of the sale. There are rummage sales, garage sales, porch sales, yard sales and sales i which you find after following a senes of signs, complete with directional arrows. Last week a six-family garage sale was in progress in Syracuse. Inside the garage of Mrs. Doyle Butler, several ladies assisted helping rummage sale goers. “They’re lots of fun,’’ remarked Mrs. Butler. “And they’re really quite profitable.” She said it took three days to dean the garage and storage room of no-longer-needed items. Then came a good day’s work marking the items for the sale, said several of the participating ladies. This particular garage sale is an annual tradition to those in the neighborhood. Several ladies anticipate the sale, Mrs. Butler explained, because they know the sizes and ages of her children. But tastes of rummage and garage sale goers seem to change. “One year we sold a of toys and games,” Mrs. Butler said. This year, such items weren’t moving as well. “Just alot of items make it successful," explains Mrs. Butler. “You just don’t know what people will look for.” She also feels the prices being kept reasonable and low at a garage sale help, too. Items not sold to customers at the annual neighborhood garage sale go to local thrift shops and resale shops. Participating in the garage sale this year are the families of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Simmons, Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Butler, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Darr, Mrs Jean Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wells and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Brown.

Letter to the editor It pays to advertise Dear Editor: At our Milford Christian Church sponsored Impact Brass Concert recently we took a survey. We asked the quotation, “I learned of this concert through Newspaper, Poster, Radio, Personal Invitation, Other.’’ Os those who answered our survey “personal invitation” was in first place and newspaper in second. Apparently it pays to advertise in the newspaper. Thanks for doing a good job. Sincerely, Robert Greenwood P S. Attendance was over 700.
