Progress Days a success The first Syracuse Flotilla Progress Days were a success, say* Les Webber, chairman of the event Webber said he felt, “it went very well. I talked to the majority of the 25 merchants involved and the majority definitely said it was a success.” A few of the merchants even wanted to extend the activities Sunday and Monday, Webber . said. A total of 249 prizes were given away over the three night*. Webber said about five or six people were present at the drawing to receive their prizes. The rest are being notified of their win by phone or letter. No purchase was necessary to enter the drawings. Webber also said that 1,375 balloons were blown up and given away. “That’s pretty good for a small town.” he emphasized. A meeting will be held a week from tonight (July 13) with all those involved plus the village merchants and the Chamber of Commerce board of directors to discuss the event and the possiblity of making it an annual activity.

They thought the fellow in charge of the rides in uptown Syracuse for Flotilla Progress Days was television comedian Art Carney. And. sure enough, he did look like Art Carney, the actor who gained fame in “The Honeymooners” skit on the Jackie Gleason show. Here “Art” is with Les Webber, promoter of the uptown affair.
