Father-Son banquet held for 45 present A Father and Son Banquet was held June 18, in the social room at North Webster Church of the Brethren. There were 45 men and boys in attendance. The welcome was given by Merlin Cassell, with response by Joe Cassell A carry-in supper was served. Preston Gregory, Cecil Likens, and Steve Richcreek, were in charge of the program George Paton, age 91, was the oldest father present. Master of Ceremonies Glenn Whitehead was “Mystery Speaker” for the evening. Following the program sandwiches, coffee and punch was served to members of the chorus. Members of the kitchen committee were: Mrs. Preston Gregory, Mrs Harry Miller, Mrs. Joe Shock, Mrs. Ralph Kiser and Eva Lock. Girls attend Music Week Miss Sandy Koenigshof and Miss Chris Taylor, both sophomore students at Wawasee High School, attended "Music Week.” held recently at Goshen College The girls studied theory and attended daily choir classes and orchestra rehearsals in preparation for the Friday evening concert The girls were recommended

for the schooling by Mrs. Ann Bushong, choral director at Wawasee High School. During the week a chicken barbecue and a swim party at Lake Michigan were enjoyed. On Friday evening, parents of the students were entertained at a banquet and concert, followed by an ice cream social. Both girls sang in the Wawasee High School Musical “Finian's Rainbow,” presented last May. Norma Sliger hosts home extension dub Norma Sliger was hostess for the recent meeting of Efficient Homemakers Home Extension Club She was assisted by Margaret Teghtmeyer. Devotions were given by Myrtle Likens. She also gave the citizenship report. The lesson "Brown Bagging” was presented by Vera Zurker. Myra Turner and Lois Royer are in charge of planning the July Theater Party. It was announced that no family picnic is scheduled for this summer. Reports were given by: Evelyn Bowser, garden remarks; Cindy Heckaman, cultural arts; and Mrs. Zurker, health and safety. The door prize was presented to Linda Stookey. Refreshments of dessert salad and fingertip sandwiches were served by the hostess. The August meeting will be at the home of Alice Long, with Bettv Lewellen assisting. COMMUNITY NEWS New members received into Fellowship at North Webster Methodist Church on June 12 were: Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Cole and Mr. and Mrs. Paul LeCount. Jennifer Lyn Teghtmeyer, daughter of Mr and Mrs Larry Teghtmeyer was baptized. Mr. and Mrs. George Switzer gave the Annual Conference report to the Administrative Board at North Webster United Methodist Church on June 15. George is lay member of the Annual Conference. Mrs. Switzer is representative member from the Elkhart District. North Webster United Methodist Church Men’s Prayer Breakfast will be held at 7 am., June 29, in the Church Fellowship room. Miss Jaimee Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl D. Smith, Indianapolis, is spending several weeks visiting with her grandmother, Mrs. S. G. County students receive degrees from Purdue U,
WEST LAFAYETTE - A number of Kosciusko County students are among the class of 3,841 students completing degree requirements at Purdue University in May. The May graduates, along with students who completed their studies in August and December of last year, were eligible to participate in the 125th commencement exercises at Purdue. Three graduation ceremonies were conducted this year to accommodate the large number J 808 JOHNSON To tour Europe with US bond Bob Johnson. 226 North Shore Drive Syracuse, has been accepted for membership in the United States Collegiate Wind Band which will make a concert tour of seven European countries during July and August. Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Johnson, plays trumpet for the Wawasee High School band, conducted by David Blackwell. He received the invitation to tour with the band from Professor Al G. Wright, director of bands at Purdue University in Lafayette, and conductor of five previous band tours. The tour, which began in 1971, will travel far three weeks, July 13 to August 3, in England. France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Holland and Switzerland. Concerts will be performed in the cities of London, Paris, Lucerne, Altdorf, Innsbruck, Lugano, Munich, Amsterdam, Aix les Baines and Heidelburg. The group will rehearse in New York before going overseas. While there, they will play invitational concerts at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and in the Plaza of the Americas at Rockefeller Center. Approximately 100 musicians are chosen from the United States to be in the band each year. Acceptance is a musical honor of national importance. In addition to performing concerts overseas, the group will visit shrines, museums and places of musical interest They will also attend various concerts Area youngsters attend camp Syracuse area youngsters attended the Scout day camp at Warsaw last week. Each came home with patches in bright orange, yellow and green as a remembrance of their outing. Attending were leader Joan Kline, Cindy Nelson, Tyna Haney, Jenny Kline, Patty Hose and Dorie Wogocnan. Casey and Sara Kline attended the Teddy Bear Camp.

Os the two groups, 229 were graduated “with distinction.” Ten per cent of the candidated in each school who have the highest indexes — non with a grade point average of less than five of a possible six — receive their degrees “with distinction.” An additional 114 students were graduated “with highest distinction,’’ a status conferred on the top three per cent of all distinguished students, regardless of school. A total of 587 advanced degrees was awarded. Finalize plans for fish fry
Members of the Syracuse Lions finalized plans for their annual fish fry to be held Saturday, July 2, from 5-8 p.m. at their regular meeting Wednesday, June 22. The event will be held at the Syracuse Scout Cabin. It was decided ticket prices will be the same as last year. Tickets are available from all Syracuse Lions.
