himself, Bruce had planned to finish in the top 10 in his first Olympics and that’s just where he landed — 10th. If one looks closely at David L. Wolper’s classic XXth Olympics film ‘‘Visions of Eight” you can spot Bruce in the running. It was after this experience that Bruce decided to devote his life for four years to training for the decathlon. With wife Chrystie firmly behind him, they moved to San Jose, Calif., where his training became his lifestyle. Bruce started to sell insurance in his off-training moments to help pay the family bills, but valiant Chrystie was making the lion’s share of their living expenses by working as an airline stewardess. An outdoorsman, Bruce has always been involved with biking, skiing or anything in the athletic area and somehow found time early in his career to take up water skiing, where, he also scored so highly he became three time Eastern water skiing champion.
