Six more enter Saturday’s Tournament of Knights
Six more athletes will be vying for the SI,OOO in grants for their sponsors while competing for the Sir Lancelot du Lac Award in the sixth annual Tournament of Knights on Saturday They are Jeff Brunk. Michael Young. Kirby Thompson. Eddie Drudge, Bill Rensberger and Jeff Hossler. Jeff Brunk will compete as the "Knight of Tnton ” Standing six foot, three inches tall, he is a graduate of Triton High School and is sponsored by the Summer Little League He was named to several all star teams while competing in football, baseball, track and basketball In 1977. he was on the Norths AlYstarJeam for Indiana Brunk whf'oe attending Ball State this fall to study business To compete as the "Knight of Central Noble” is Michael Young of Kimmell He is a graduate of the school and is being sponsored by the athletic department During high school he was named All-NECC in both basketball and track He will be attending Arkansas University on a basketball scholarship this fall. The 400 relay team was disqualified for running out-of-zone Lorene said the 880 relay team also ran out-of-zone and were disqualified. Spearman noted they had not practiced together. The 400 relay team did capture a sixth place in the junior women’s division. Teammate Wexler received a third in the 100 meter hurdles ‘So it was kind of a bad week for all of us” Spearman added.

The Wawasee girls softball team opened play in the Goshen Ladies Fastpitch League two weeks ago as defending league champions. This is a rebuilding year for the local girls. Graduation took Tammy Schumn. leading home run hitter; Betsy Williams, the team’s most valuable; and Barb Brouwer, one of the best players in the league. The first game of the year was one that Wawasee would like to forget. The final score was Coop 21 — Wawasee 2. After the opening day loss, the girls came back to win the next three, v Wawasee — Supreme Vans This game was one with many errors and not too much hitting Nancy Shock had two hits and was the winning pitcher. Wawasee scored 15 runs on only five hits to defeat Supreme Vans 15-9. Wawasee — Plain and Fagcy On Thursday the Wamorettes were forced to play a double hitter due to a rain out. In the first game it was Wawasee 28 — Plain and Fancy 4. Lin Ummel had four hits and Nancy Shock and Martha Salazar had three each. Shock was the winning pitcher. Several girls had two hits each. Wawasee — Rockwood Vans The Wawasee — Rockwood Vans was by far the best game played by the Warriorettes according to coach John Replogle. Leading 3-0 in the fifth. Rochwood came back to score four in the Sixth, only to have Wawasee come back with three more in their half of the sixth. Rockwood tied it in the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh. Nancy Shock’s double and Martha Salazar's single won the game. Kathi Replogle had three Sadie Hawkins Day winners listed at Wawasee Golf Club Sadie Hawkins Day was held on June 19 at the Wawasee Golf Club. The team of Bonnie Cooper. Orville Vanderßeyden and Bob Bauman finished first with 97 points. In second place with 92 points were Doris Scheidel, Eli Mast and Russ Sowers. Scoring 90 points for third place were Sally Dodds. Walt Duckett and Joe Hartsough and scoring 90 points for fourth place were Rita Dodds, Chuck Wilson and Leonard Jones. Scramble A three way tie for first place resulted in the winning team ending with a birdie on the first extra hole in Saturday’s play. In first place with a four under par 32 was the team of Leonard Jones. Charles Morrical. Fred Godfrey, Rita Dodds and Margaret Troyer. In second place with 32 were Tom Amaza, Jack Liggett, Bill Troyer. Sally Dodds and Pat Zwickl and in third place with 32 was the team of Mark Byrd, Ed Green, Ray Davis, Doris Scheidel and Sue Davis.
