Spirit of Tommorrow 4-H Club holds annual mother's tea
The Spirit of Tomorrow 4-H Club of Syracuse met in the Syracuse Junior High School recently for their annual mother’s tea. Six mothers and 13 youngsters attended. Roll call was answered with hobby talks. Those hobbies that were represented were model cars, stamp collecting, rocketry, needle point, coin collecting, outdoor sports, artex painting, string art, crocheting and Sonny and Cher collection. The members presented a play called Snow White and the Seven Dorks Those participating were Kevin Brower as Bashful Bellybutton; Beth Walker as Grumpy; Keith Brower as Dr. DoLittle; Linda James as Slappy Happy; Terri Smith as Sleepy Snoozer; Christi Martindale as Snookin' Sneezy and Lisa Walker ad Dopy. The queen was Lisa Keener and Snow White was played by Jackie Hemminger. Prince Lancelot was played by Jeff Hemminger. Kevin Walker presented a violin solo, “The Fiddling Tune" and Beth Walker did a clarinet solo, “The Theme Song from M A-S-H?’ Linda James sang “Pass It On." All food projects were judged

Fathers honored at OES meeting Members of Syracuse Chapter No. 283, Order of the Eastern Star, met on June 8 with Worthy Matron Arlene Mohler presiding. Mrs. Mohler opened the meeting with a poem paying tribute to fathers. During the meeting, plans were discussed on the forthcoming yard sale with all members being urged to donate items for the project before June 25 or to call for pick-up arrangements. Matthew Solomon was recipient of the Father s Day gift. Honored for birthdays and anniversaries were Linda Crow, Vera Kitson and Alice Stevens. Elvina and Matthew Solomon served refreshments at the close of the evening No meetings will be held during July and August, the next stated meeting will be the second Wednesday in September.

Charm 'N Chatter Club plans for theater party
Charm ’N Chatter Extension Homemakers Club met June 6 at the home of Mrs. Lorin Badskey. Mrs. Art Osborn assisted the hostess. Plans were finalized for the July Theater Party. The annual club picnic will be held in August in the home of Mrs Preston Gregory, Big Barbee Lake. Helen Anderson will be co-hostess. An auction of white elephant items is planned The lesson “Low Cost Home Decorating” was given by Colleen Bryant. Assignments for the lesson and hostess schedule were made for the coming year. Committee chairmen are Jane Akers, garden remarks; Mrs Osborn, health and safety; Carol Ritchie, citizenship; Christine Hunt, cultural arts; Lee Adair, WCTU meets, hears about county meeting Members of North Webster Anna Bowers Chapter WCTU met June 7 at North Webster Church of the Brethren. Rhoda Mock led group singing of “I Be True " Virginia Bockman led the opening prayer. Devotions were given by’ Mary Wilcoxson. president. Her topic was “Great Possibilities." She read from Hebrews 13:1-9. Roll call was answered with readings and Bible verses. An account of the county meeting held recently at Warsaw was given by Mabie Eberhardt, president of the County WCTU Mrs Eberhardt also led the closing prayer The next meeting will be held July 5 at North Webster Church of the Brethren.

Auxiliary plans for the festival Plans for Mermaid Festival money making projects were discussed during the June 6 meeting of North Webster Firemen s Auxiliary. A silent auction was conducted by Wilma Mitchell, president. It was announced that $330.14 was raised from the Memorial Day week end bake sale and rummage sale. Funds will be used for needed rescue equipment and supplies. During the business session work schedules were assigned for Mermaid Festival week. A waterball game practice was planned for June 12. No regular meeting will be held in July, Refreshments were served by Myra Bowser. Karen Liensetter will be hostess for the August meeting. Ethel Engle hostess for Past Chiefs Ethel Engle was hostess for the June 8 meeting of North Webster Past Chiefs of the Pythian Sisters. There were 11 members and two guests present. The guests were Effie Vanator and Phyllis Engle. Special business was discussed pertaining to the local temple. Following the business session euchre was played. Catherine Bause placed low and Ermal Vanator placed high. The door
prize was presented to Thelma McCorkle. Refreshments of sandwiches, relish and strawberry short cake were served. Imogene Menzie will be hostess for the July meeting. Barbee Ladies to study Peter Barbee Ladies Christian Service met June 9 with 11 members present. The meeting was held in the church social room. Orpha Foster played the piano for group singing. It was announced that the new lesson study of II Peter will start in July. Margaret Welker was elected as president. The ladies listened to a tape by Marlene Evans entitled “Love Is Teamwork.” It deals with items of interest for all active church women. A carry-in dinner was served at noon with husbands of the members as invited guests. The next meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. on the second Thursday of July. Any interested woman is invited to attend. Guests are welcome. Everyone is asked to take a sack lunch. COMMUNITY NEWS Rev. and Mrs. Dewight Ritenour, Barbee Lake. spent last week vacationing in Florida. While there they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Dewayne Ritenour and family, Sebring. Fla. The Tuesday night Prayer meetings at North Webster United Methodist Church are now being held at 7:30 p.m.. instead of 7 p.m. North Webster United Methodist Church _Adult Bible class members will meet at 1:30 p.m., June 28. at the church. The Goodwill Builders SundaySchool Class from North Webster United Methodist Church enjoyed a class party on June 11 at Epworth Forest. Katie Ann Kintzel, Warsaw, was guest speaker for the June 13 meeting of Miriam Circle. Her topic was the “Each One Teach One” reading program which she started in Warsaw. The meeting was held in the Fellowship room at North Webster United Methodist Church. Rev. and Mrs. A C. Underwood will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on July 3.

'Rose for Friendship Week* was proclaimed one year ago
Happy Birthday wishes go to “A Rose For Friendship Week.” On April 2, 1976, Gov. Otis Bowen signed a Proclamation marking the fourth week of June of each year as “Rose Friendship Week.” Wednesday during the fourth week of June is specified as “Rose For Friendship Day.” J.B. Hoy of North Webster, is originator of the unique idea.
