Chris Schenkel, president and co-founder of the International Palace of Sports Youth Foundation announced contestants have entered the sixth annual Tournament of Knights First to enter was Scott Martin who will compete as the "Knight of Manchester.” Scott is five foot, nine inches tall, weighs 145 pounds and is a 1977 graduate of Manchester High School. He is 18 years old and is being sponsored by the Manchester High School Athletic Department During his prep career, he received two varsity letters in basketball, football and four letters in baseball. AII-TRC in 1976 and was also All Wabash County baseball for two years Scott plans to attend Manchetser College this fall and major in accounting with a minor in business administration Steve Reed of Warsaw is also entered in the six sports events He will be sponsored by the Warsaw High School Athletic Department and will be com peting as the "Knight of Warsaw.” At six foot, two inches tall, this 18-year-old athlete weighs 165 pounds During his high school career he received several

Kevin will compete as the Knight of Yorktown and will be entering the engineering program at Purdue University this fall Rod Mayer of Winona Lake is being sponsored by the Warsaw Jaycees and will compete as the Knight of Warsaw Jaycees The 18-year-old. six foot, one inch. 195 pound athlete was captain of the 1976 Warsaw varsity football team and was named allconference tight end, received varsity letters his junior and

senior year while being voted most improved both years. Rod is currently planning to attend either .Indiana or Purdue University and major in business. A 1977 Wawasee High School graduate. Joel Popenfoose, is being sponsored by the Wawasee Lettermen s Club and will compete as the Knight of Wawasee. Joel is five foot. 10 inches tall and weighs 165 pounds During his high school career he received two varsity letters in both football and track His plans include a major in music at Butler College. Also entered is Vince Rhodes of North Webster He is a graduate of Wawasee High School and is being sponsored by the Amencan Legion Post 253 of North Webster. As a prep athlete. Saturday at the intersection of US 30 and old road 30. Other drivers involved were Donna M Handley. 19. Burbank. 111., who was ticketed for failure to yield the right-of-way after her vehicle was driven into the path of another car. and Douglas M. Brown. 38. LaGr ige, 111. Handley was going south on old road 30 and went into the path of the Brown auto which was going east on US 30. The Brown vehicle struck the Handley auto, causing it to hit the Johnson truck Johnson was stopped at the intersection at the time of the accident. Donna Handley was treated at the Kosciusko CommunityHospital and released. Her mother. Alice M. Handley. 51. also of Burbank, was hospitalized with multiple fractures of the left ribs and left chest and multiple lacerations of the right arm. Spearman takes title Defending state champion trackster Lorene Spearman, r 3 Syracuse, captured her third 220 win in a row and watched her record in the 100 stand during last Friday night s state track finals in Indianapolis. A diVing Rhonda Brady, longtime Spearman rival, clipped the tape at : 10.8. in the 100, followed by Spearman with :10.9. Believing she had false started. Spearman hung back in the blocks, while Brady took advantage of her lead and later dove into the tape ahead of the Wawasee High School junior. Typical of the seesaw battle that has been waged between Spearman and Brady for years. Spearman later took the 220 and bed her own record of :23.9. With 18 points. Spearman placed the Wawasee team fourth, tying with Calumet. With no position to defend its share title as a team. Wawasee could not repeat as state champs this year. Spearman will leave Thursday to travel to Los Angeles. Calif . and the Women's AAU Nationals. Spearman, a freshman civil engineering major at Tri-State University, recently finished the season with the Trojan track team The tracksters had a 6-1 record for the outdoor season, winning both the Mid-Central Conference and the N.A.I.A state titles The team has held the conference title since 1972 and the state title four of the past five years. Spearman qualified to run the 110 yard high hurdles last week in the'NCAA national track meet Running against Olympic goldmedalist. Edwin Moses, in his preliminary heat. Spearman finished fourth with a 15.0 time Three places qualified for the semi-finals. He was named to the All NAIA state team and took first in the high hurdles. Manifold. 26. r 1, was cited for failure to comply with vehicle inspection laws after his auto muffler fell off. causing him to slide into a cement wall at the intersection of CR 550 N and CR 900E Thursday, at 10:12 p.m. Manifold told police that when his muffler fell off. he attempted to slow down but hit some gravel and slid into the wall. He then reportedly backed up and hit a utility pole. Damage was set at SI,OOO to Manifold’s vehicle.
