Booklet tells Leesburg's tale
$ Last year during Leesburg Days, the booklet “A Trip Down Memory Lane ... Through the History of Leesburg, Indiana, 1833-1976,“ made its debut The booklet was prepared by the Leesburg Merchants Association, with research being done by Josephine Hopkins and Mildred Randall, both of Leesburg Miss Hopkins figures about 300 of the booklets were sold We could have sold more of them if we had them," she remarked But the budget did not allow for more copies Inside the booklet, the development of the community is explained The story begins with the town being plotted by founder Levi Lee and ends with an update on local businesses In between, settling families, past high school graduates and occurrences are outlined And whatever became of so-and-so is answered* about some of the former community

Malfunction causes fire A malfunction in a gas refrigerator was the cause of a trailer fire Monday night. June 6. three and one-half miles south of Syracuse on the SyracuseWebster road. Brice Medlock, owner of the trailer, reported the fire to Syracuse Fire Department at 11:48 pm Firemen extinguished the blaze and then returned to the station at 12:30a.m.

ENDING HISTORY — The Plain Township School, built in 1922, is ending its history as workmen are demolishing the structure. Until June 1, the structure was used as the Leesburg Elementary School. The building is being replaced by a more modern, one-story facility.

WATCHES ALMA MATER DEMOLISHED — Wallace Huffman. Leesburg businessman, watches as the crew demolishes his old alma mater. The Plain Township School was where Huffman graduated in 1936, when it was known as the Leesburg High School. Wallace's son was one of the last graduates of the school in 1966. Wife X irginia is one of the first grade teachers who has taught in the building.
Petty cash is taken from Webster school The North Webster Elementary School was the scene of a break-in sometime last Thursday evening. June 2. Petty cash was reported stolen from the offices of the school. Entry was apparently gained through a window of the building. The offices had been ransacked in the search for money and a file cabinet had jammed and vent broken as a, result School janitor Bud Hawn reported damage to North Webster police
Elder Real Estate to hold grand opening
Elder Real Estate in Syracuse will again be operating out of its office on South Huntington Street starting Friday. June 10. Mrs Chet Elder reports a grand opening will be held Friday and Saturday to officially open the new office, built by her husband. Chet Elder, after their old office burnt down last December She said it took so long for them to get started on the new building because the a eather was so cold and many of their papers were frozen to the floor

Mrs. Elder did say, however, “we tried to save as much as we could.” Since December, Elder Real Estate has been operating out of one of their homes, the Castle, located on Medusa Street The real estate firm will move into its new building today (Wednesday), said Mrs Elder, with the grand opening on Friday. Youths are charged with trespassing
Eleven Syracuse youths, aged 16 to 17 years old, have been turned over to the custody of their parents after breaking into a vacant home owned by Kate Hamman of Goshen, located one mile west of Syracuse on CR 1100 N. The break-in occurred early Thursday night when the youths set up a party at the home, taking in alcohol, sleeping bags and bathing suits. The neighbors heard noises at the house and investigated, causing some of the youths to flee, leaving some of their things behind. The sheriff’s department was called and identification was found among articles stored at the house. The juveniles, their parents.
