NEW ASSOCIATE MINISTER — Pictured above is Rev. Donald Sheline. newly appointed associate minister of Calvary I nited Methodist Church in Syracuse, with bis wife Carolyn and children. Donna and Tom. Rev. Sheline was appointed associate minister of the church by Bishop Ralph Alton during the Annual Conference session of the United Methodist Church held at Purdue U niversity last week. He is a lay minister of the United Methodist Church and has served as minister of the Solomon Creek United Methodist Church for the past seven years. At Calvary Church. Rev. Sheline will have specific responsibilities in the area of parish visitation and leadership development. He will also assist Rev. Rom Cook, pastor, with Sunday morning services as needed. His duties at the church will be on a part-time basis since he is also engaged in farming and holds the position of traffic supervisor with the Elkhart County Highway Department. Rev. Sheline is also active in the field of police chaplaincy serving as chaplain of the Indiana State Police and the Elkhart County Police. In I*7B. he was awarded the title of Indiana Conservation Minister of the Year by the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Inc,.

Auxiliary hears report on record poppy sales
Ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary. Unit 223. Syracuse, met in the Legion Hall Tuesday night, "May 24. for their regular monthly meeting. Evelyn Fisher, poppy chairman, reported record sales last week end for red poppy sales Other chairman reports were given at the meeting. These included: Americanism, legislation, community service and finance It was also reported the auxiliary now has 151 members.
BPW plaque unveiled at Crosson Park site
For it’s 40th anniversary, the Syracuse Business and Professional Women’s Club presented a monument and plaque honoring the town’s founders to the town of Syracuse and it’s citizens on May 29 in Crosson Park. The plaque is a reminder of the club and its projects to the town over the years BPW chose Crosson Park as site of the monument and plaque because in 1939. members first saw the park as a site of historic value History of the park dates back to 1834. when a grist mill built by men named Crosson and Ward sank in quicksand and subterranean soil. For over 40 or 50 years the hole was used as the town’s chief refuse dump, until a few years ago when it was finally filled and used as a city park ground. The BPW members used the park as one of their improvement projects, making it one of the beauty spots of the city. Among the many other projects of the club are: Dona ho ns to the fire department, Scout Cabin. Riley Hospital, Cub Scouts. Red Cross, Polio Fund, Cemetery Fund. Cancer Fund, Salvation Army, Retarded ACCEPTS POSITION — Jack Oswald, owner of Three Flags Drive-In, Wawasee Village, has . announced the promotion of Judy Bachtel to the position of assistant manager. June 5. at Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse, as they celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary on June 7. Rev. Lininger retired from active ministry in the United Methodist Church in IS7I having served churches in Fort Wayne. Parker. Cambridge City. Marion. Converse and Windfall. Mrs. Lininger is a retired elementary school teacher. The couple presently live in Epworth Forest. North Webster. The coffee hour and reception will be held following worship services and until 1 p.m. at the church. Friends of the couple are invited to attend.
Nominating committee was chosen. On the committee are Margaret Nichols. Ann Schrock, Lucy Kroh. Grace Eyer and Louise Crow. . It was also announced the equipment for the kitchen had arrived and would be put up as soon as possible. Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting by Lucy Kroh, Lois Brown and Ali Bushong The next meeting will be in June when election of officers will be held.

Child abuse to be auxiliary talk topic Greg Smith of North Webster will speak on “Child abuse. Child Porno and Child Prostitution ” to members of the American Legion Auxiliary Herbert Kuhn Unit 253. North Webster, on Tuesday. June 7, at 8 p.m. in the legion hall Smith has attended a school for instruction of this subject. All members of the auxiliary, as well as interested guests are invited to attend. Mrs. Bultemier is honored The women of the Bethel Church of the Brethren honored Mrs. Bruce Bultemeier with a stork shower in the social rooms of the church on W ednesday. May 25. The committee for the event was Mrs. Larry Snider. Mrs. Donn Kesler and Mrs. Kerry Price. The gifts were placed in a cradle made for the baby-to-be by Mrs Bultemeier’s father, Elmer Sorensen. Tables were decorated with patchwork material like is being used in the nursery in the Bultemeier home. Winners of contests were Mrs. James Witman and Angela Smith There were 33 persons present for the shower including her mother, aunts, Mrs Eldon Sorensen and Mrs Ray Sorensen, who were special guests and a family friend, Mrs. Robert Hurd.

Brenda Welty, Danny Henson wed May 14 in Wawasee Chapel
Wawasee Chapel, Syracuse, was the site of a candlelite altar wedding of Brenda J. Welty, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everett L. Welty of Syracuse and Danny L. Henson, son of Mr. and Mrs. James D. Henson of Milford on Saturday, May 14. at 6:30 p.m. Rev. Harlan Steffen performed the double ring ceremony assisted by Kermit Welty, brother of the bride. Sharon Grider sang “Follow Me.” “One in the Spirit,” “Morning is Broken” and "Wedding Song” accompanied by Mrs. Harriet Martin, organist, and Denise Schrock, pianist. The bride wore a floor-length gown of off-white satin roses. Several roses were outlined by pearls with pearl buttons and loops to accent the neckline. Long sleeves completed the dress with a long veil-train of netting. She carried orchids, lily of the valley and ivory. Bev Welty served as her sister's maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Tina Searfoss. Sherree Arthur, both of Syracuse; Carol Stidams. North Webster; Lynn Maresh. Warsaw; and flower girl, Jolinda Jaques of Goshen. Bridesmaids wore floor-length, baby blue gowns with long bell sleeves and beige lace inserts. The flower girl wore a matching blue dress with" beige lace apron. All attendants wore hats and carried candles surrounded with red roses and white carnations. The dinner meeting marked the occasion of the group's annual installation of officers The outgoing president, Judi Storey, conducted the meeting and the initiation of new members. Plans for this year’s Cystic Fibrosis Swim-Along are being finalized at this time. Cochairmen Ann Hapner and Cyndi Thornburg are arranging sites and getting other information now. Anyone interested in swimming, working, or donating pier space for this year's effort may contact either chairman. Plans were also finalized for those members planning on attending the ESA state convention in June

Mabel Rodriguez becomes bride of Darrell Custer on Saturday
Mabel Rodriguez of 33 Calle Pte. 306 San Salvador, El Salvador, Central America, became the bride of Darrell Custer of r 3 Syracuse during a double ring ceremony preformed in the Milford Christian Church at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon, May 28. The new Mrs. Custer is the daughter of Mrs. Alberto Rodriguez of San Salvador. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Custer of r 1 Milford. Robert Greenwood, pastor of the church, officiated at the service in the presence of 150 guests. Baskets of peach-colored gladioliand white pompon daisies and candalabra on each side of the altar. White pompon daisies and greenery around a wedding candle were on the communion table. Mrs. Jay Pippenger served as organist. Mrs. Everett Fought served as vocalist. She sang “The Lord’s Prayer” and “More.” Stanley Custer escorted his future daughter-in-law to the front of the sanctuary. She chose a full-length gown of ivory whipped cream and organza over taffeta. The bodice was fashioned with scalloped neckline outlined in imported lace and pearls. The long sleeves were of organza, overlayed with lace. Her semilong train was of whipped cream and organza. A halo of seed pearls held the bouffant veil of five short and one long layer of French Illusion. Her cascade bouquet was of peach-colored roses, white pompon daisies and baby's breath. Peggy Guard of r 1 Leesburg served as maid of honor. Her gown was of pale green dotted Swiss over whipped cream, trimmed in white lace daisies. The gown was floor-length and featured long sleeves and a Crowel neckline. Her large brimmed white hat was trimmed in green. She carried a nosegay of green and peach daisies and baby’s breath. Mrs. Steve Barker of 2311 Harrison, Cincinnatti, Ohio and Miss Vonda Evans of Nappanee served as bridesmaids. Their gowns were of peach-colored dotted Swiss. Their large brimmed white hats were trimmed in peach and each carried a nosegay of peach and green. Angela Cain of Indianapolis served as flower girl and Steve Ruch of Leesburg was ringbearer. Dale Custer served his brother as best man. Steve Cain of Indianapolis and Donald Bucher of r 3 Syracuse were ushers. Dwight Custer and Donald Decker of Fort Wayne were groomsmen.
Reception Follows Following the wedding reception was held in the church fellowship hall. The table was decorated with a large tiered cake topped a water fountain, surrounded with heart shaped cakes topped with a bride and bridegroom in chapel doors. Mrs. Max Ruch of Leesburg, Mrs. Lloyd Mynhier of Milford and Mrs. Steve Cain of Indianapolis served. The bride is a graduate of Clegio La Divina Providencia with the class of 1971 and is a bilingual secretary. The tridegroom is a 1965 graduate of Milford High School and is a drainage contractor.
