Five awards make debut during program, honor students named

The Wawasee High School Honors Program contained five awards presented for the first time this year. For the first time, the Wawasee Boosters, Inc , presented awards to Tim Hamman and Rebecca Busch for their sportsmanship. Dan Martin, student body president, made the presentation. Psi lota Xi Sorority, represented by Janet Allen, started their award by giving the first to Ginger Gant. Another first, the beginning of an art gallery at the high school of best of show winners, was initiated by the Wawasee High School Purchase Award. Terri Holtzclaw received this award. A fine arts award, to a student of the drama and speech department was begun by Nancy Glon The award is the Glon Furniture Fine Arts Award and went to Dan Martin. The Wawasee High School Outstanding Service Award was given by the Pride Committee of the school Two initial recipients were named, one a faculty member and another a staff member Selected this year 4<re Roy Stiffler, custodian; and Robert Kitson. senior class sponsor. The Karen Wiggs Drudge Art Memorial was given to Craig Koble and the Laurel J. Mitchell Business Education Memorial Award was presented to Marjorie Jones The Dr. Noble Neff Educational Trust, given by Donn Kesler, was awarded to Craig Steve Badskey received the James H Turner Memorial Award from David Blackwell, given to a music student of Turner's The Future Farmer's of America Kevin Tom Memorial was given to Kevin Coy by Ed Clayton The Betty Crocker Award was given to Mary Robyn Watkins by Janice Baumgartner J C. Shrock was presented the National High School Mathematics Exam Award by Michael Neff Bob Johnson received the Robert W Wilis Golf Trophy from Rudy Cesco Girls' State certificates were awarded to Kim Beezley and Diane Perry by Mrs Robinson, on behalf of the Milford and Syracuse American Legions Mr* Robinson also awarded Susan Shank for the American Association of University Women Chore-Time Equipment, Inc , presented an award to Patricia McQuillian Dick Gentry was the presenter Lakeland Community Educators Association (LCEA) Teacher s Scholarship was given ( to Marie Kitson by Tony Clouse Kiwanis International Career Awards, announced by Phil Hoy. went to Sandra Rinker. Athletic scholastic achievement awards were presented to two students Todd Haines received the Tom Prickett Honorary Award given by Tom Pnckett Rhonda Byrd received the Thornburg Drug Company Award given by tom Kroh Andrea Griffith received the social studies award, Todd Haines, science; Caryl Coy, mathematics; Susan Shank, foreign language; and Pat McQuillan, language arts. Don Bice, Jr. honored after commencement A buffet-supper honoring Wawasee graduate Donald D. Bice. Jr., was held at his home at 506 W Emetine St., Milford, following commencement exercises at the high school. Hosts for the occasion were his parents.
