Suggested tours for Memorial Day week end
With Memorial Day marking the informal opening of the warm weather touring season, the Chicago Motor Club s Touring Department has compiled this list of easy-to-reach holiday and week end destinations for the benefit of area motorists and their families. 1. Holland. Mich. — Windmill Island City Park is located in the heart of the family resort country in this part of Michigan The park is a re-creation of a 200-year-old Netherlands country-side scene Everything about the park is planned to typify a 1750 environment in the Netherlands Focal pant of the park is “De Zwann.” a two-century old grain mill from the Netherlands which actually operates when the wind is right 2 Springfield. 111. — This state capital is a fascinating area for the history buff It was here that Abraham Lincoln matured to manhood and developed the skills that later made him one of the most famous figures in American History Springfield is the site of the only home he ever owned, his law office and his tomb Nearby is reconstructed New Salem, the village where he served as postmaster and store clerk 3. Broun Counts State Park — Located just 40 miles south erf Indianapolis and 20 east of Bloomington, this state park owes much of its charm to an early pioneer atmosphere which has been preserved within its Two injuried in Warsaw accident Gary W. .County writings, writers book feature
By JOAN SHARP A 92-page book, entitled, “Writers and Writings of Kosciusko County,” has just been published. Distribution started Saturday, May 21, at different locations in the county, including Milford, Syracuse, North Webster, Pierceton, Warsaw, Winona Lake, Leesburg and Mentone. This book is a Bicentennial gift from the Warsaw Branch of the American Association of University Women to the people of Kosciusko County in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the founding of our country. The association has available 400 numbered copies of the book, which will be free for those persons requesting one. Joan Sharp of Syracuse chairman of the project, was assisted by committee members: Roberta Sloan, Margaret Reafsnyder, Mary E. Loop, Paz M. Ros, and Marilyn Phillips, all of Warsaw. Also helping were Virginia Zuck, Yvonne Messner (Grace College), and Ruthella Rodeheaver, of Winona Lake; Florence Long. Nancy Matchett and Agnes Davis of Pierceton; also. Mary Hoffer, formerly of Warsaw, now living in Colorado. This committee started the project in the fall of 1975 and completed it in May 1977, with the presentation of copies of the AAUW dinner meeting Monday evening, May 16, at International Friendship House in Winona Lake. The index in this annotated bibliography has more than 100 names of people who have written history, short stories, poems, fiction, music, articles in magazines and professional journals, technical and scientific works, and doctoral theses. All — either the writers or the writings — are associated with Kosciusko Countv.

Baraboo, Wise. — Devil’s Lake is one of the more fascinating of Wisconsin’s 8,700 lakes. The spring-fed oval-shaped lake is hemmed in by spectacular sandstone bluffs rising up to 500 feet and blanketed with lush tree cover. From Milford are Henry Beer, poetry, and the Baumgartner family genealogy and other writings. A new book, soon to be on sale, “History of North Webster: from Boyston’s Mill to Camelot Square,” by the late Kip Sullivan, is listed. Local history of Syracuse includes works by Eli Lilly, Scott Edgell, George Miles and Ronald Sharp. Other writers include June Laudeman and Ring Lardner, who wrote short stories during his summer stay at Wawasee Lake. Carol Landrigan of Warsaw, is president of the Warsaw Branch of AAUW. Local members are Betty Arthur, Rachelle Rarick, and Joan Sharp, of Syracuse; Helen Murchie, Mildred Yeager, and Maxine Robinson of Leesburg, and Dorothy Williams of Milford. Corso, associates will travel to Fort Wayne for public gathering
Indiana Football Coach Lee Corso, Indiana University, will be traveling to Fort Wayne with some of his associates for a public gathering at Brookwood Country Club and at Baer Field Hilton Hotel Tuesday, June 14. Attending with Corso will be IU presidential assistant George Taliaferro, former IU football All-American, vice presidentuniversity relations Taddeus Bonus; assistant football coach Bob Otolski; athletic administrative assistant Wally Moore; assistant track and cross
country coach Aubrey Dooley, Varsity Club executive secretary Dave Martin; and IU Alumni Association alumni clubs director Tom Bolyard. Festivities will begin at 11 a.m. when the golf field tees off at the country club. A reception and dinner will be featured at the hotel that night starting at 6 p.m. The outing is open to the public.
