Milford Senior Citizens enjoy musical program

The Milford Senior Citizens met in the fire station on Sunday. May 15. for their regular meeting The tables were decorated with spring flowers representing May poles Grace was given by Agnes Hurd After dinner those present were entertained by Dorothy Williams at the piano and Connie Smith as vocalist singing all the old songs of yesterday. A poem “The Homes of Yesteryear" was read by Iva Neff, followed by two poems. “When Ma is Sick.” and "Mama's Apron" read by Darlene Miller. Plants were given to Maude Hollar.

Mother-daughter banquet at Bethel Church on Thursday

The annual mother-daughter banquet for the Bethel Church of the Brethren of Milford was held in the social room of the church on Thursday, May 12 The program for the evening was presented by The Carohers from the Clinton Frame Mennonite Church near Goshen. It was on the spiritual theme about mothers with poems and acapella blending of the eight voices involved After a short intermission an animated presentation of Snow White was given for the young ladies present The program followed a carryin meal. Blanche Wenger returned thanks The welcome was given by Karin Wuthrich and Dawn Richer, small daughters of Barbara Wuthrich. who gave the response Devotions of the evening were given by Ruth Angle from the book. “Free To Be a Woman " “Name That Tune" was played by the group w ith winner in the senior category being Betty Wieman and winner in the junior category being Melissa Snider Gifts were given to Mabel CELEBRATING A N - MYERSARY — Mr. and Mrs. John Vlethod of Waubee Lake are celebrating their 43d wedding anniversary today (Wednesday, May 18). Mrs. Method was the former Virginia Goshert of Warsaw. Their marriage was performed by a great uncle of the bride. Rev. Noah McCoy, in the United Brethren Church at Fort Wayne. UM ladies hold annual mother-daughter event

The ladies of the Milford United Methodist Church and their guest gathered for their annual mother-daughter banquet in the fellowship room of the church on May 12. Mrs. James Longfellow gave devotions before the ladies helped themselves to the salad bar. Following the meal. Mrs. Dean Cousins welcomed those present. ■Mrs. Harlan Wuthrich read, to the daughters, a poem, “One Wish" by Isabel Sanderson. Her daughter. Becky, read the poem “A Mother Is Love" by Mary Dawson Hughes. Mrs. Wuthrich then gave a humorous reading. “What Is A Grandmother." written by a third grader. Mrs. T. A. Miller presented geranimums to the eldest lady and the youngest lady present. The eldest, or "Longest bloomer." Mrs Charles Schell, received an almost full blooming plant. The youngest, four-month-old Kathy RoOse. received a plant that was just ready to bloom Mrs. Charles Schell modeled her dress and accessories that she wore for the evening Os pre--1881 vintage, they had belonged to her mother. The dress had a matching bonnet, accompanied Mother's Day theme of meeting Mother’s Day and Grand Chapter reports was the theme of the Syracuse Chapter No. 283. Order of the Eastern <Btar. meeting May 11 with Worthy Matron Arlene Mohler presiding Mrs. Mohler read two poems honoring mothers. Two door prizes were awarded to Marceil Groves and Charmaine Egolf for the oldest and youngest mothers. Worthy Grand Matron Suzanne Lisor, was then presented She expressed thanks for members' assistance at Grand Chapter and at h.er reception All members agreed the Grand Chapter held in Indianapolis last month was beautiful and enjoyable. Dew art Lake girl to compete in All-American Girl State Pageant

Bethanie Walker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stu Walker, Dewart Lake, has been accepted as a candidate-at-large in the Indiana All-American Girl State Pageant. The pageant is scheduled for June 13. 14 and 15. in Indianapolis. For her portion of the talent contest. Bethanie will sing, using foreign and hand language. She is a seventh grade student at the Syracuse Junior High School, and honor student. At school she is a cheerleader and member of the basketball, track, gymnastics and summer softball teams. She also plays clarinet in the band and serves as an acolyte at the North Webster United Methodist Church The pageant is a five categorycontest. according to the age levels of the participants. Conservation club plans for spring clean-up'of shallows

Members of Turkey Creek Conservation Club met last Thursday at the clubhouse at which time it was announced that due to lack of necessary vehicles, the club’s annual spring clean-up of the shallows of Lake Wawasee would be postponed until Sunday, June 5. .Assembly points and starting times will be announced for the event. Hunter Safety Course Randy Mast, club vice president and hunter safety instructor, announced tentative plans to offer another hunter safety course at the end of July.
