“We have made significant advances in recent years on behalf of older Americans, but we have far to go before the economic and social equity of ou r
senior citizens is ensured.” Brademas said. “The White House Conference on Aging will provide a focus through which we can affirm our commitment to this most deserving segment of our population." The measure introduced by Brademas authorizing the presidenf to call a White House Conference on Aging in 1981 provides adequate time for i planning and the convening of state conferences on aging prior to the national meeting. The bill mandates the : ■ development of recommendations and plans to meet the needs of older people through a joint effort among the federal government, the states and individuals Previous White House Conferences on Aging were held in 1961 and 1971. “We are challenged to improve the well-being for the elderly." Brademas said. “For indeed we have much to do — in health care, employment, housing and social services —before the rich promise of American life is available to all our older citizens “ Brademas is chairman of the subcommittee on select 1 education which has responsibility for major legislation in the house of representatives dealing with the elderly Kosciusko County Historical Museum opening May 15 The Kosciusko County Histoneal Museum at Oswego will be opening for the season at one Sunday afternoon.
