Girls share victory with North Wood
By TERRI HOLTZCLAW The Warriorette track girls split a conference victory with North Wood last Thursday, both scoring 48 points over Concord’s 38. Defending state champion Lorene Spearman remained undefeated, clocking 11.8 in the 100-yard dash and 26.5 in the 220. She also anchored the 440 relay team along with Kathy Bice, Barb Yoder and Rhonda Byrd to win in 54.8’seconds Other firsts for Wawasee were Rhonda Byrd in the 80-yard hurdles with 12.9 and the medley and 880 relay teams both consisting of Joanna Spearman, Kathy Bice, Terri Holtzclaw and Judy Fouts clocking 1:58.4 and 1:57.5. The Summary Low Hurdles — Byrd W, Rinker W, Miller N, Angel C, Time: 12.9 100 — Spearman W, Klassen C, Mann C, Zurcher W, Time: 11.8 Mile Run - Ressler N, Hall W, Busch W, Time: 6:18.0. 880 Relay — Wawasee, NorCulver stops golf team By KEVIN ROCKENBAUGH The Wawasee golf team took its second loss in only 14 games when the boys met Culver Military. The Warriors were led by Bob Johnson with 39. Warriors scores were Johnson 39, Gary Brown 41, Jim Hoover 42, Rick McKibben 44 and Mark Hoover 45. Culver was led by Mike Miller with 36. John Guth finished with 41, Bob Sypniewski and Jeff Peobix each finished with 43 s and Drew Crull hit for 47. Invitational The Warriors placed seventh in the Rensselaer Invitational. West Lafayette, ranked second in the state, took first with a 306. Rensselaer was second with 308, Merrillville 311, Lafayette Jeff 312, Gary Andrean 321, Munster 328, Wawasee 330, Valparaiso 334, Lafayette Harrison 334, Lake Central 337 took the first 10 places. Wawasee was led by Gary Brown with 78, Bob Johnson with 80 and Mark and Jim Hoover each finished with 86’s. Fish and Fun Resort first Results of the Kosciusko Community YMCA Celebrity Swim showed Fish and Fun Resort to be the winners of the Goshen Fin Award and first place. Members of this year’s winning team were Rick Rosenkranz, Ted Wright. Tom Trier and John Stockman. The winning time was 47.4 seconds for the 100-yard swim. First place in the inner tube race went to Dalton's team with a time of one minute, 38 seconds. Team members were Sue Weismantel, Daryl Woodward. Kip Stllen and Bud Wiggins. Winner in the clubs and organizations division was the YMCA’s team consisting of Kermit Welty. Nancy Huffer, Dave Griffith and Dan Younger Their time was 55.4 seconds. Industrial A winner was Dalton Foundries, manned by Mateer, Stanz, Wear and Adams. Industrial B division winner was Armstrong Products with a 57.1 second time. Team members were Dennis Montenero, Tim Sandor. Dave Hawley and Ed Sc ha ms Retail and financial division winners were Fish and Fun Resort, the over all winners.

By TERRI HOLTZCLAW The girls track team tied with Bremen Monday night in a threeway Conference meet, scoring 63 points each to Plymouth's eight. Junior Lorene Spearman pulled in three firsts in the 100, 220 and 440 relay with Kathy Bice, Barb Yoder and Rhonda Byrd. Belinda Boyer reigned in the shot put, followed by Shelly Dahlstrom. The 440 -year dash was won by Karen Rider, followed by Danielle Neibert, both girls are freshman. The 880 relay team and the medley relay team, consisting of Joanna Spearman. Kathy Bice, Terri Holtzclaw, and Judy Fouts; both continued their winning streak, while miler Benji Hall placed fourth and bettered her own personal record by 24 seconds. Green took the loss. Mark Simpson got the only Warrior hit. Worth Packer scored the only Warrior run. For the Redskins, Gregory was the winning pitcher; Bender walked twice, scoring both times; scored twice; and Pangburn and Gregory both scored one run. Wawasee made its only score in the third inning with one run. one hit and three errors. Goshen scored twice in the first inning, twice in the third inning, once each in the fourth and fifth innings for six runs on eight hits and two errors.
