Plans set for Bike-A-Thon Plans have been announced for a Bike-A-Thon sponsored by Kiwanis Club of Lakeland, North Webster, to be held on Saturday, May 14, with May 21 as alternate if bad weather causes a delay. The route, which is 15 miles long, will start from any of three r Augsburger parking lots to Quaker Haven and back. Prizes will be awarded to riders in the Bike-A-Thon The prizes will be awarded in two categories — 14 and under age group and 15 years of age and older group Prizes include, first prize, SSO US Savings Bond; second prize, $25 US Savings Bond; third prize, speedometer; fourth prize, saddle bag; fifth prize, toe clips; sixth and seventh prizes, compressed air pumps; and eighth through fourteenth, lesser prizes in each category as listed in the registration brochures The registration brochures, forms and details of the bike-a-thon may be obtained from Palace of Sweets, North Webster; Chris Koher Insurance Agency, Syracuse; Leon’s Barber Shop in Milford; Augsburger's in North Webster, Syracuse or Milford; and from elementary and junior high

All participants should follow instructions in the brochure for registration, securing sponsors, time to report for ride, verification of ride and turning in pledged money. A duplicate copy of the sponsor list should also be turned into the Kiwanis member in charge before a rider begins his ride on May 14. The Lakeland Kiwanis is also sponsoring a bicycle inspection ot Friday. May 6, at Lakeland elementary and junior high schools. 20-hour marathon profitable It was a tired group of students who finished 20 solid hours of music at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, but with profitable results. The students, members of the Wawasee High School music department. began their marathon concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday. A total of $2,225.96 was pledged and students will be collecting the pledges this week A spring band concert began the marathon and a jazz concert continued until 2 irtn Among individual performances were selections by Mrs Ralph (Ann) Bushong and Brenda Dahl. Impromptu concerts were given by the band, choir and orchestra, with a final band concert signaling the end. Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Koble remained throughout the marathon as adult chaperones. The musicians were spurred on by food and drink brought by students. Proceeds will be returned to department funds and will be used for awards in 1977-78. Syracuse Bank to extend hours The State Bank of Syracuse has announced it will be extending its business hours, effective May 16. to better serve Syracuse residents. The Village Branch, will be open on Thursdays from 9-12 a m. This applies only to the drive-up windows at the Village Branch. Lobbies in all banks will be open Monday through Wednesday for an additional hour and one-half hour later on Fridays And. the bank will also be closing at noon on Saturday, since all their business seems to be transacted by then. For the Uptown Branch, new hours will be 9 a m.-4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; closed on Thursday; 9 am.-5:30 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m.-noon Saturday. “It's Alive." a Warner Bros, motion picture about the supernatural, with an extraordinary power to frighten, opens at both the Lake Theater in Warsaw and in Syracuse at the Pickwick Theater on Friday. The film was an enormous success in Europe and the Orient, where it was signally honored by special film groups and at various festivals. As a result of this acclaim, Warner Bros, is now re-releasing “It’s Alive.” The film, dealing with the personal and public panic brought about by the birth of a baby, has been compared to such horror classics of recent times as “The Exorcist,” “The Omen” and “Rosemary’s Baby.” It was written, produced and directed by Larry Cohen and stars John Ryan, Sharon Farrell. 14 YEARS AGO, MAY 9, 1963 An Elkhart mobile manufacturer plans to build a factory at the south edge of Milford for the production of one of its most popular lines, it was learned this week. Robert Barth, president of Bee-Line Mobile Homes. Elkhart, has purchased a 10-acre tract of land just south of Milford from Earl Wolferman as a site of the new plant. The season’s warmest temperatures and high winds came to the Lakeland area yesterday. Temperatures soared to a near 85 degree mark yesterday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. R J. T. L. Smith, residing three miles southeast erf town, received 60.000 cabbage plants from Mobile. Ala., Monday. He has ordered 65,000 more. A couple of weeks ago we mentioned the fact that several wolves had been seen in the marsh thicket northwest of town and since then we have had several reports from that source. Car catches on fire Damage was set at SBOO to a car owned by Martin Didus which caught ot fire Monday, May 2, at 73 North Shore Drive, Syracuse. Firemen were called to the scene at 4:08 p.m. The fire, which was probably caused by a short in the wiring, was extinguished with a CO2 extinguisher. Firemen were excused at 4:30 p.m.

Mother's Day concert to help Special Olympics
A Mother’s Day concert at the Warsaw High School auditorium will help meet expenses for students attending area and state Special Olympics meets. The Warsaw Area Special Olympics Committee is sponsoring “Touch,” a three-man group which will play from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, May 8. Members of the group include Natel Krazsch, Tom Arnold and Chris Long. Tickets for the event are available in advance at the Warsaw High School bookstore or at the door the day of performance. Athletes from five northern Indiana counties will be entered in the May 14 area meet at South Bend. I The three-day state meet is held in Terre Haute during June. Special Olympics is not an elimination tournament. It is personal competition and any entrant, by choice, may enter area and state levels.
