The group descended to the fellowship hall and was seated at tables decorated with hurricane lamps, pastel streamers and favors were miniature May
baskets. A style show was enjoyed with Mrs. Clayton Sutter of Goshen narrating and Mrs. Hurd accompanying. Those participating in the style show were Mrs. Carroll, Cindy, Kay and Lori Kammerer, Lorraine Meek, Gina Stookey, Donna Moser, Mrs. Carl Lehman and Mrs. Vic Virgil. Blessing for the refreshments was given. Frozen layer dessert, topped with marshmallow flowers, lemon punch, coffee, nuts and mints was served from a lighted serving table decorated with a beautiful' floral arrangement. Morehouse finished their winter schooling from Winnipeg Bible College last week and are spending the summer with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Vere Wildman and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Morehouse. Installation services for Rev. Irvin Miller, as pastor of NewSalem. will be held May 8 at 7:30. Rev. Howard Kreider will be conducting the service. Sunday services "What is Salvation?” was the message delivered Sunday morning by Pastor Irvin Miller. Two-vehicles collide Monday A two-vehicle accident occured on Pickwick Road, Syracuse, at 4:10 p.m. Monday, May 2. William Pipp, 806 South Front Street was driving w-est on the street when he collided with Donna D. Peck, r 2. Pipp was driving a 75 Chevrolet. Peck was in a 68 Ford Danage was set at $65 to the Pipp car and $l5O to the Peck vehicle. On May 29. 1777, Washington moved the Continental Army out of winter quarters at Morristown, N.J., to block the advance of British forces from New York City to Philadelphia.

1 YEAR AGO, MAY 5.1976 It is time to remember, as the nation's 200th anniversary is a time to remember, how many lives constituted the price paid for this nation’s freedom. It is a time to honor all veterans. The bright red poppy has been used by members of American Legion Auxiliary, as a memorial and as a means by which to raise funds for successful veterans and children's programs. Poppy Days at Syracuse will be on May 20-21. Ray B. Yoder petitioned members of the Syracuse Town Board last night for annexation of his-property. The land is located in Forrest Park and Kitson Park, Lake Wawasee. Yoder owns three lots in Forrest Park and one in Kitson Park. Members of the Wednesday Afternoon Club at Syracuse met last Wednesday in the home of Mrs. John Petit assisted by Mrs. DeLoss Weaver. A citation of achievement was presented to the club by the general federation of women's clubs and Sears, Roebuck & Co. for working to improve the quality of community life. Mrs. Cindy Bucher of r 3 Syracuse was honored at a linen shower Sunday afternoon in the home of her aunt. Mrs. Delbert Dippon of r 1 Milford. 5 YEARS AGO, MAY 3,1972 The Wawasee Heights Baptist Church south of Syracuse was the setting for the March 25 wedding uniting in marriage Miss Catharine R. Witt of Winona Lake and Thanas J. Mullins, Jr. r 3 Syracuse. Rev. Robert Mundy of the church and Rev. Ron Johnson, uncle of the bride, of Trinity Baptist church. Findlay, Ohio, officiated for the one o’clock double ring ceremony in the presence of 300 guests. Approximately $5,000 in danage was estimated to the Forrest Plank home at 631 East Pittsburg Street, Syracuse, around 8:02 Sunday evening (hiring a lightning and rain storm which hit the lakeland area. Syracuse firemen speculated the fire started by lightning and burned a portion of the front porch and floor joists on the second floor area. In a recent Knights of Columbus state speech meet, Robert Wesolek of Wawasee Prep, won third place and a scholarship grant of $250. He was promoted April 18. 20 YEARS AGO, MAY 2,1957 Larry Nicolai received another honor last night when he was awarded the trophy for the Most Valuable Player in baseball at the Annual Athletic Awards banquet sponsored by the Lions Club. James Caskey received the trophy fa the most valuable player in basketball. "Little Jim” also received the Free Throw shooting award given for actual scores made in Free Throws. Wawasee Lake again will have an airport. Tim Motts, owner, said last week that he plans to have the field ready for operaljon on or before June j. Construction of an 1800 foot northeastsouthwest runaway got underway last week and there will be a 1600 foot east-vfest runway. Plans are rapidly progressing fa the Vacationland Jubilee to be held in Syracuse June 7, 8 and 9.
